On Saturday, May 11, Friends of Memorial Lane hosted a ceremony to honor National Police Week. The event provided support and remembrance for those who lost their lives in the line of duty. Officer Spotlight Awards were given to recognize exceptional dedication to the citizens of Hood County. Retired GPD Detective Cogdill received a flag presentation for 25 years of service. Vice-chair Kevin Sklark presented Officer Spotlight Awards to Corporal Brandon Cheney of the Granbury Police Department, Investigator Sgt Guy Williams of Hood County SO, Trooper Marcus French of the Department of Public Safety, and Chief Ray Wilson of the Tolar Police Department. Constable Randy Ellis, Pct 3, was unable to attend. In 1962, President John F. Kennedy designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week.
