The popular Taste of Granbury Whiskey and Wine event takes place Thursday, Oct. 10 from 5-8 p.m. at La Bella Luna. This is the fifth year of the event sponsored by the Woman’s Wednesday Club.
The Woman’s Wednesday Club was established in Granbury in 1897. The focus of the club has been to play a major role in the civic and philanthropic life of the community with the primary goal of providing scholarships to deserving Hood County women and to serve community agencies through various projects.
In 1977, the Lois G. Cleveland Scholarship was established by the WWC. In the past three years alone, WWC has awarded more than $119,000 in scholarships to Hood County women in all stages of life. Women are eligible for funds to advance their educational degrees as well as obtain certifications at the junior college level.
Cathy Weeks, first vice president of the Granbury WWC shares, “As the cost of education rises, it’s very important that we continue to support our leaders of tomorrow and care for our community.”
Abigail Griffin is one such woman who benefited from the generosity of the WWC.
“Receiving the WWC scholarship has been a transformative experience for me as I pursue my master’s in accounting. This scholarship not only provided me with financial support needed to focus on my studies but also serves as a recognition of my hard work and dedication. It has empowered me to delve deeper into my field, explore new opportunities, and strive for excellence without the burden of financial stress. The scholarship has truly been a cornerstone in my academic journey, fueling my ambition to excel and to make a significant impact on the world of accounting.”
Daniela Olivares expressed how the scholarship made her education possible.
“I am very happy and appreciative knowing I was a chosen recipient. The financial assistance provided by the WWC was a great help to me and my family. The WWC scholarship has taken a large burden off my shoulders. I have three jobs currently; I won’t be able to make the same earnings when the fall semester starts. This scholarship has eased my financial stress so I am able to focus more on my courses and will help me achieve higher grades, which has been my highest priority.”
The Taste of Granbury event has become the major fundraiser for the WWC since 2020, whereas previously, funds were raised through style show luncheons.
