North Texans didn’t need to travel far to witness the magic of the Aurora Borealis this week, they only needed to step outside. Late Tuesday night, November 11, 2025, residents across the Hood County News coverage area looked up to find the northern sky brushed with unexpected pinks and reds, a sight almost never seen this far south.
Photos poured into the newsroom as locals captured the glow from backyards, pastures, and quiet county roads. But the surprise didn’t end here at home. Fellow Texans reached out with their own images from across the state, including as far north as Decatur in Wise County and as far south as Katy, just west of Houston. Many caught the faint green, pink, and red hues starting at around 9 pm with the colors intensifying shortly before midnight in some areas.
For many, it was a once-in-a-lifetime moment - a shared experience that stretched from Granbury to the Gulf Coast, reminding us that even in a big state, a small moment of beauty can connect us all.
