Patsy Ray Hewlett, 88 of Somervell County, Texas, passed away May 7, 2026, after a long illness.
Born on Dec. 12, 1937, in Chicken Gristle Bend, Hood County, Texas, to Floy and Mozella Vaughn. Patsy was born in the same house her father was born in 24 years earlier. Patsy grew up throughout Hood County, settling in the Mambrino area as a child. She married her high school sweetheart, Francis Dean Hayworth, Jan. 15, 1955, and had three children: Denna Jones, Timmie Hayworth and Kressie Taylor. Pasty attended business school in Fort Worth, which led to a successful career at the Doyle Agency in Granbury, Texas, for almost 60 years. After the tragic loss of her husband, Patsy married James R. Hewlett on July 3, 1975, and they spent 34 loving years together until his death in 2009.
Patsy loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were her greatest joy. Patsy led a life of service and enjoyed giving back to her community she so dearly loved. Patsy was actively involved in the Order of the Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Matron, Deputy Grand Matron, Grand Warder, and District Deputy Grand Matron throughout her years of service. Patsy enjoyed spending her time outdoors, traveling the world.
Patsy served on the board with Hood County Child Protective Services for many years. Once retired, she was honored by the organization with the Patsy Hewlett Award, given to a person each year who goes above and beyond for the children of Hood County.
Patsy is survived by her daughter, Denna Jones; son, Tim Hayworth and wife Rebecca; and daughter, Kressie Taylor; brothers, Gary Vaughn and Rick Bowser; nieces and nephew, Audra Miller, Heather Green, Brooke Taddia and Alex Vaughn; grandchildren, Justin Jones and wife Christa, Nicole Adair and fiancé JR Mills; great-grandchildren, Parker-Pete, Olivia, Jessi and JP Jones, and Skyler, Alexis and Ryleigh Adair, all of Granbury; and brothers-in-law, Hubert Hayworth and Donald Hayworth; sisters-in-law, Jane Vaughn and Sandra Vaughn.
Patsy was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Francis Dean Hayworth; second husband, James R. Hewlett; brother, Lynn Vaughn; and sons-in-law David Jones and Eddie Taylor.
Patsy was laid to rest in Nubbin Ridge Cemetery on May 14. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Second Chance Farms or Alzheimer’s Foundation.
