Patricia Joanne McCormick 1936 – 2025

Posted

Patricia Joanne McCormick died June 13, 2025. Patricia was born in Monticello, Ill., Dec. 9, 1936, to Harry and Etha Fought. She was raised in a Christian home and accepted the Lord at an early age. Patti later had the opportunity to be baptized with her two older children in Tucson, Arizona, in the early 70s.

She met John McCormick, the man of her dreams, in January of 1957. While at a stoplight, he pulled up alongside her car and asked for her digits. She wrote her number on a piece of paper that he kept in his wallet and later proudly showed his grandchildren. They were married in Michigan City, Ind., on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28, 1957, and were married for 47 years.

As a young adult, she enjoyed racing cars and, of course, WINNING! She never grew out of driving fast, even as a grandma, she had the “need for speed!”

She is preceded in death by her husband, John; parents, Harry and Etha; siblings, June Curry, Harry Fought Jr., Phyllis Shaw and Gladys Peck.

She is survived by three children: Jay and wife Fiona McCormick of Lubbock; Jackie and husband Greg Hicks of Granbury; and Pamela and husband David Adams of San Angelo. Grandchildren: Amy and husband Terry Smith, Amber and husband Seth Shock, Kelsi and husband Alexander Beckett, Timothy and wife Rachelle McCormick, Thomas and wife Rosa McCormick, James McCormick, Sophie and husband Joey Jenkins, Samuel Adams, and John Adams. She was also blessed with nine great-grandchildren. Patti is also survived by her brother James Fought and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was the youngest girl of six children and was accustomed to receiving a lot of attention. A tradition of pampering she continued into her adulthood, and how she enjoyed lavishing love on her own family and everyone they were introduced to or came across. Patti wanted to make sure everyone felt welcome and comfortable. She understood what it meant to love on those that God brings across our path! What a gift we have had to sit at the feet of someone who understands life's true, simple meaning.

For everything there is a season, a time to be born, and a time to die, a time to laugh, and a time to weep, a time to mourn and a time to dance ...... This is a time to dance, a time to celebrate a life lived in and through faith. She fought the good fight. She has finished the race. Well done, good and faithful servant.
