Morton Edward Gray, II, passed away Thursday, Jan. 23, 2025, at the age of 89 at his home in Weatherford with his loving wife of 43 years, Linda Gray, by his side.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31 at Lakeside Baptist Church, 500 W. Bluebonnet Drive in Granbury. Visitation will be at 9 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
A graveside service and burial with military honors will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery in Fort Worth.
He was born June 5, 1935, in Fort Worth to Morton Edward and Margarette Faulkner Gray and was raised in River Oaks, Fort Worth. He bought a ranch in Tolar in 1981 and lived in Hood County for many years and even ran for Hood County Commissioner. Morton received his Master’s degree from Dallas Baptist University in public administration. He was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church, which he was part of helping to build and was involved in the church’s missions. Morton was a veteran of the United States Air Force and a member of the Granbury Masons. He enjoyed his family, hunting, Westerns, traveling and collecting historical memorabilia. Morton was recognized this past year as the oldest living member of the Texas Gun Collectors Association.
Morton was preceded in death by his father, Morton E. Gray, mother Margarette Faulkner Gray-Jobe, stepdad J.D. Jobe, brother Michael Gray, daughter Renee Gray Stone, son Morton E. Gray III, and granddaughters, Jaci Stone and Randi Long.
Morton is survived by his wife, Linda Gray; children Teresa Gray Babcock and husband H.B., Delissa Gray Slimp and husband Marvin, Jimmy Harvell and wife Joanne, and JoRita Harvell; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and many other extended family members and close friends.
The family would like to express its sincere thanks to the nurses and staff of Reliant At Home Hospice for the care provided for Morton prior to his passing.
