The Lipan Lady Indians are state champs once again, defeating Martin’s Mill 42-35 Friday night, March 6, at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
Lipan freshman Sydni Gaylor was named the MVP.
The Lady Indians pride themselves on their defense, and that, plus dominating on the boards, led them to victory. The Lady Indians out-rebounded the taller Martin’s Mill 42-29.
The game was tight from the get-go, with Lipan taking an 8-7 lead after one quarter. The game remained tight throughout the second quarter, and Martin’s Mill took a one-point lead with 2:09 to play in the half.
However, Lipan finished out the final two minutes on a 10-3 run to take a 24-18 lead into halftime.
The Lady Indians increased that lead to 30-20 in the third quarter.
Gaylor led the scoring with 23 points, including a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line. She it four free throws in the final 30 seconds to help ice the victory.
Lipan’s Kynzi Callaway and Skylar Harrison each added 7 points. Jacy Bolton scored 4 points and Finley Shockley scored 1 point.
