Posted

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of our stepfather, John Wayne Simmons, Feb. 7, 2025.

To honor his wishes, John will be cremated. His ashes will be scattered in his stepdaughter Pam’s rose garden beside his wife, Jean, in June.

If you would like to make a donation, John and Mom were members of the Granbury Humane Society.

John was born in Centerville, Tennesee to the late Garfield Simmons and Cova (Riley) Simmons Sept. 23, 1946, and entered eternal rest in Granbury at the age of 78 years.

John was a Vietnam veteran and served his country in the Army from 1966-1970. He met his future wife, Jean, during a softball game at the Twomey ball field. They married Aug. 14, 1970, and soon moved to Texas. They enjoyed 46 wonderful years together before her death in 2016. John did not have children of his own, but loved his stepchildren, Pam, Paula and Greg unconditionally.

John was a dedicated master carpenter and a “Jack-of-all-trades.” He enjoyed the outdoors, whether it was boating, fishing or riding his motorcycle with Jean. He loved gardening and planting fruit trees.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Jean Henry Simmons; stepson, Greg Henry; parents, Garfield Simmons and Cova (Riley) Simmons; brothers, Thomas, Joe, Billy and Buck Simmons; and sisters, Edith Rose Simmons and Gracie Davidson.

Those left to cherish his memory are his stepdaughters, Pam Henry Senter (Danny) Nettleton of Mississippi and Paula Eck Wilbourn (Rich) Houston; grandchildren, Daniel Senter of Tupelo, Mississippi, Mandi Hunt (Steve) of Cypress, Martin Eck (Elise) of Conroe and Skylar Henry of Madison, Wisconsin; great-grandchildren, Slaten Senter, Bronson and Brynna Hunt, Karina Eck and River Henry; sisters, Jean Parker of Duck River, Tennessee and Nina Brooks of La Vergne, Tennessee; a host of nieces and nephews; and his beloved canine companion, Shawnee.
