Posted

Janet Lea Burgess of Granbury, Texas, passed away peacefully at her residence at The Cove at Waterview on Feb. 27, 2025. Janet was born Jan. 5, 1938, in Loveland, Colorado, to FM “Bank” and A. Eleanor Ellis. She graduated from Douglas High School in Douglas, Wyoming, and continued her education at the University of Wyoming, one of the few women enrolled in the School of Engineering. She was a member of the Tri Delta sorority and sang in a Sweet Adelines a cappella quartet. At UW she met her husband, Frederick G. Burgess, who had the great fortune of beating the rest of his Sigma Chi brothers to the phone to call her.

The Burgess family moved to Granbury in 1979. She and Fred were active members of the Pecan Plantation community, where you could find her on the tennis court, on the golf course or partaking in libations with their friends at the club on Friday nights.

Janet was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her brother Daniel W. Ellis of Casper, Wyoming. She is survived by her children, Gerry Burgess (Jennifer Davis), Brenda (Robert) Medcalf and Jennifer Crowder, grandchildren Casey (Zach) Thompson, Jeremy (Mathew) Medcalf, Daniel Medcalf, Katharine Weis and Brinlee Munoz and great-grandchildren Harley, Cariad and Mayson.

A celebration of life is planned for a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Wounded Warrior Project.
