Indians, Rattlers advance

The Lipan Indians and Tolar Rattlers both moved on to the third round of the Class 2A basketball playoffs after winning Thursday night. Lipan defeated Albany 51-42 and Tolar topped Nocona 57-51.

The Indians, No. 1 in the state, got 26 points from Court Gaylor, while Alberto Andreatta scored 10 and Darius Steed added 8. Lipan hit 12 of 13 free throws compared to Albany's 3-of-4, which was ultimately the difference in the game.

Tolar, No. 23 in the state, bested the state's No. 9 team behind a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds from Cayden Abrego. Matthew Behrens led all scorers with 17 points and Tyson Ellis and Briton Rice each scored 8.

Tolar will next face District 11-2A rival Poolville on Tuesday, Feb. 27 at Weatherford High School at 6:30 p.m. Poolville, ranked No. 10 in the state, finished second in district and defeated the third-place Rattlers twice, 58-30 in Poolville and 30-28 in Tolar.

Lipan is awaiting the winner of Friday's game between Rio Vista and Seymour in their third-round matchup early next week.
