Granbury’s historic Opera House is about to come alive with the enchanting tale of “Anastasia: Youth Edition,” presented by the Granbury Theatre Academy Nov. 22-24. This production, part of the Theatre Academy Children’s Series, promises to transport audiences on a magical journey through history, music and heartfelt storytelling.
Based on the Broadway hit created by Tony Award winners Terrence McNally, Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, Anastasia whisks viewers away to the twilight of the Russian Empire and the Parisian euphoria of the 1920s. The story follows Anya, a courageous young woman seeking to uncover the secrets of her past, with the help of an adventurous con man and a kindhearted former aristocrat. Packed with intrigue, danger and dreams of family and love, the production promises to captivate audiences of all ages.
The Granbury Theatre Academy’s production is directed by Caitlan Leblo, who leads an outstanding team to bring this story to life. Leblo shared her excitement about the cast, saying, “The teens in this cast are truly top-notch. We not only have kids from Granbury, but also the surrounding area, and each student comes with a wealth of experience from their local theatres and school programs. The vocal talent alone is worth the ticket, but you will be in awe of the performance quality when you come to see this show.”
The show also marks an important moment for Granbury Theatre Academy. Academy director Matt Beutner described the cast as one of the strongest in the program’s history. “This is truly one of the deepest casts the academy has ever had, with lots of brand-new students in leading roles! Caitlan Leblo and her production team have done a fantastic job of bringing out the very best in these young artists,” Beutner said.
The production’s ambitious scope is supported by the Granbury Theatre Academy Children's Series sponsors: Granbury Optimist Club, First National Bank of Granbury, The Hyde Law Firm, Hood County News and Mary Jayne's Sweets. Their contributions ensure the Academy can continue nurturing young talent and presenting high-caliber productions.
