The much-anticipated Goosebump Jump will return to Granbury Jan. 18 and registration has opened for this popular event. This fun event marks its fifth year after more than 300 participants faced the frigid Lake Granbury waters last year.
Goosebump Jump “plungers” employ a variety of technique as they are launched from City Beach Park from the 15-foot-tall waterslide that propels them into the water.
After their “refreshing” descent into the chilly waters, “plungers” can partake in a warm dip in the hot tubs and grab a hot cocoa and cookie at the after party at the Hilton Garden Inn.
The first 200 participants registered will receive a souvenir Lake Granbury Goosebump Jump 2025 medal.
Prize money in the amount of $1,000 is awarded by the Granbury Lodging Association to the 501(c)(3) with the largest number of fans. The event has made over $13,000 for charitable organizations in just five years.
Event attendees pay $10 to attend the event. Besides the fun that ensues, they receive a sticker to give to their favorite nonprofit represented at the event. The nonprofit with the most “votes” receives the additional $1,000.
Sponsored by the Granbury Area Lodging Association, the City of Granbury — Visit Granbury, KHITS95.5, JR Sopas, Texas EMS and the Hood County News, the event is part of the “Winter Guest” tourism season which is when local hotels, restaurants and other attractions offer special discounts to encourage tourism during January and February.
“Plungers” will walk the blue carpet on arrival. Many don costumes, and some teams appear in theme attire.
At last year’s Goosebump Jump, the morning started at a brisk 20 degrees.
“It was 31 degrees at jump time (last year) and snow was falling as promised,” said Tammy Dooley, director of the City of Granbury Convention and Visitors Bureau — Visit Granbury.
Every year the Goosebump Jump has garnered more excitement and participation. In 2022, Visit Granbury received state recognition for the event with the win for Best Tourism-Related Community/Philanthropic Effort presented by Texas Travel Awards.
“Some people think it is crazy, some come to simply watch the fun, but it is always exciting however you choose to participate! You just never know how cold it will be. Either way, it will be perfect goosebump weather,” shared Dooley.
