Born to Ernest Thomas and Ethel Cordelia Rhodes in McCrory, Ark., on May 28, 1931, Flora Mae Terrell passed peacefully from this life May 27, 2025, the day before her 94th birthday, at home in Pecan Plantation. She was surrounded by love and the legacy of a life well-lived.
She dedicated two decades of her life as a licensed vocational nurse, serving from 1979 until her retirement in 1999. She was a faithful member of Lakeside Baptist Church in Granbury, where she sang in the choir. She was also an active member of Campers on Mission, sharing her faith and service with fellow travelers and strangers who often became friends.
Flo was an expert seamstress and crocheted and knitted, as well. She golfed for many years after moving to Pecan Plantation and was an avid bowler for most of her life. She also played the guitar, rode a motorcycle in her teens and was a gifted quilter.
She lived life with joyful mischief — she cooked, played board games, baked, sang and loved to dance. Every part of her life was infused with love, laughter and a deeply rooted faith.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 64 years, Melvin Lee Terrell; daughters, Shelby, Patsy, Paula, and Carolyn; sons, Billy and Jesse; 16 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and a growing number of great-great-grandchildren who will one day know her through the stories we will never stop telling.
A celebration of Flora Mae’s life will be held at Lakeside Baptist Church in Granbury on Sunday, June 29, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you share a kind deed, a warm meal, a smile, or a laugh … even a song — just as Flo would have done.
