The men and women of Cresson Volunteer Fire Department gathered Friday, Jan. 23, to honor the life and legacy of their friend and fellow hero David Scott Hendrix, who died Jan. 15, ending a two-year battle with a form of cancer that is believed to have originated from his work as a firefighter.
“Dependable, knowledgeable, dedicated, adventurous, solid, smart and a fast learner all describe David Hendrix,” CVFD Chief Ron Becker said.
Hendrix was a dedicated member of the Cresson Volunteer Fire Department, where he served for nine years.
“David Hendrix was the kind of volunteer firefighter who doesn’t come around every day,” Becker said.
According to a CVFD press release issued after his death, Hendrix “ fought valiantly, finished the race — and kept his faith.”
Hendrix is survived by his wife, Andrea Fittz Hendrix; his children, Ryan Hendrix, Taylor Hendrix and Reid Hendrix; his sister, Susan Hendrix; sister-in-law, Jennifer Fittz Gonzalez; and many nieces and nephews.
The family is requesting memorial donations be made to the Cresson Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 42, Cresson, TX 76035.
