Carolyn Sue Melville, born on Nov. 17, 1941, in Girard, Kansas, passed away on Dec.12, 2025, in Granbury, Texas. Carolyn was a woman whose life embodied the essence of love and communal spirit. Carolyn's journey from her birthplace to her residence in Granbury, Texas, was marked by an enduring legacy of nurturing, giving, and inspiring. She was a devoted homemaker, a gifted cook, and a beloved figure at the Pecan Baptist Church. A deep sense of service characterized Carolyn's life, whether through her 23-year career at Lockheed Martin or her tireless efforts in volunteering for her community and church.
In her younger years in Columbus, Kansas, Carolyn played basketball and was in the marching band during her school years. Following her marriage in 1959, she embraced motherhood with the birth of her daughter, Trudi. Carolyn's move from Kansas to Joshua, Texas, in 1975 marked a new chapter in her life where she became an active church member and dedicated volunteer, further enriching the lives of those around her.
Carolyn had a knack for making every day special. Her grandchildren always looked forward to "Nana's cookies," and her talent for knitting and quilting brought warmth and comfort to many. She was renowned for her culinary skills, regularly bringing breakfast to church on Sundays and preparing food for various events. Her joy was contagious, and she was known for her love of playing games, bringing a sense of fun and camaraderie wherever she went.
Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Trudi DeRouen, and son-in-law, John DeRouen. She was the proud grandmother of John Braeden, Keeton and Rylan DeRouen. She is also survived by her sister, Phyllis Meyer, and her husband, Mike Meyer, and numerous nephews and nieces; and sisters-in-law, Irna Humble, Stella Euilene Humble.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Elva Humble; her brothers, Marvin and Melvin Humble; and her sister, Shirley (Ralph Dean) Ulery.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Carolyn Melville will be held on Monday, Dec. 22, 2025, at 2 p.m. at the Wiley Funeral Home Chapel, 400 U.S. Highway 377 E., Granbury, Texas, 76048.
The service is under the direction of Wiley Funeral Home - Granbury.
