March is National Nutrition Month®— an annual campaign created by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics where everyone is invited to learn more about making informed food choices, developing healthful eating and increasing physical activity habits.

Two Granbury Independent School District Unified Robotics teams qualified for the state championship during the Special Olympics Texas Winter Games held in Bee Cave Feb. 16.

Childcare options have expanded for the town of Tolar with the Feb. 5 opening of Tolar Tots.

A fifth grader at Tolar Elementary School was named a student hero by the Texas Education Agency for District 11. Cameron Taylor was one of 15 students across the state of Texas to receive the prestigious award and the first from Tolar ISD.

During a regularly scheduled school board meeting Feb. 12, Assistant Superintendent Tammy Clark presented the district’s academic performance report, which shows much success across the board.

On Feb. 17, Granbury Middle School was named a “School to Watch” in Texas. The distinction comes from the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals.

The DECA chapter at Granbury High School competed in the state championship Feb. 15-17 with 16 students qualifying for the competition, the highest number GHS has taken. This was also the first year the chapter had both freshmen and sophomores compete.

One Acton Elementary student is proving that every penny really does count after she donated 31,000 pennies to the three-week campus-wide Penny War that ended Friday, Feb. 2.

During a regularly scheduled Granbury ISD board of trustees meeting, the board voted 5-2 to call a special election May 4 to allow voters to consider a bond proposal totaling $161,500,000. Trustees Melanie Graft and Karen Lowery voted in opposition.

Granbury Middle School Principal Andy Smith sent an email to GMS families Jan. 31 announcing his resignation.

The Granbury Independent School District’s Child Nutrition department is un-beet-able following its recent Best of the Bunch Award in the Texas Department of Agriculture’s Farm Fresh Challenge.

During a regularly scheduled Granbury ISD board of trustees meeting, the board voted to adopt a new grade point average calculation that will go into effect for current eighth graders who will soon begin their freshman year.
