TSU dinged for violations in campus crime reporting
 (Posted 11/5/2009 04:19 pm)
Tarleton State University in Stephenville - a campus that includes 370 students from Hood County - has been cited by the Department of Education for alleged inaccurate reporting of campus crime statistics and may have to pay a fine of $137,500. TSU spokeswoman Liza Benedict said the university will appeal the ruling, and said the mistakes were unintentional. In 2007, TSU journalism students studied campus police reports dating back to 2001 and found discrepancies in stats filed by the PD to the DOE. The DOE's imposed fine is for alleged violations by the university of the Clery Act, which pertains to the disclosure of campus crime statistics.
