SPRINGTOWN – The Granbury Pirates will have two weeks to recoup after being defeated by the Springtown Porcupines 51-7 Friday at Porcupine Stadium.
The Porcupines (2-1) wasted no time to score three touchdowns in the first quarter against the Pirates (1-2).
Springtown quarterback Kaleb Chesney found wideout Tre Steen for 37-yard TD, but the 2-point conversion failed to put Porcupines up 6-0 with 10:38 left in 1st quarter.
Springtown wasted no time to make it 12-0 after Porcupines QB Kaleb Chesney ran down the sideline for a 26-yard TD, but Springtown failed on a 2-point conversion with 9:28 left in 1st Qtr.
Granbury was able to respond quickly after Pirates QB Kyler Young tiptoed down the sideline for a 16-yard TD to make it Springtown 12, Granbury 7 with 6:20 left in 1st quarter.
Springtown RB Ashton Watson ended the first quarter with a 2-yard TD run, but Granbury blocked the PAT, as Porcupines lead Pirates 18-7 with 2:47 in 1st Qtr.
At the start of the second quarter, Springtown QB Kaleb Chesney found wide receiver Tre Steen in the back of the end zone for a 10-yd TD to make it Porcupines 25, Granbury 7 w/ 10:45 in second quarter.
The final score of the first half came when Springtown running back Ashton Wallace caught a wide-open 65-yard TD catch. Granbury blocked the PAT to make it Porcupines 31, Granbury 7.
Springtown kicked off the third quarter with a touchdown when Porcupines QB Chesney found Tre Steen for a 51-yard TD in the middle of the field, as Porcupines extended their lead over Granbury to 38-7 with 10:07 on the clock.
Nine minutes later Springtown RB Austin Chenault found the end zone for a 13-yard touchdown run to make it Porcupines 44, Granbury 7.
The last score of the game came in the fourth quarter when Springtown’s wideout Tre Steen caught a 13-yard TD to make it Porcupines 51, Granbury 7
The Pirates have the week off next week and start district play when they head to Burleson Friday, Sept. 23.
