Jeremi Suri, professor of public affairs and history at the University of Texas at Austin, will speak on his book “The Impossible Presidency” at the next quarterly meeting of Lone Star Progressives, scheduled for Oct. 5 at the Pecan Plantation Country Club. Suri’s book charts the rise and fall of the American presidency, from the limited role envisaged by the Founding Fathers to its current status as the most powerful job in the world. The dinner and program will be from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Cost is $30 per person and must be paid in advance.
