Government shutdown affects emergency drill

A “graded” drill planned for Wednesday, Oct. 9, at the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) may not be graded after all, due to the shutdown of the federal government. The county is required to do the graded drills because of the county’s proximity to the Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant. However, County Judge Darrell Cockerham and Fire Marshal/Emergency Management Coordinator Ray Wilson have received word that there may be no representatives there of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission or the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) because of the shutdown.
