County receives grant to help with tornado clean-up

The county has received $250,000 in grant funds from the Texas Department of Agriculture to help defray clean-up costs from the May 15 tornado, according to County Judge Darrell Cockerham. The county spent about $100,000 just on dumpsters that were placed at Rancho Brazos, where the twister destroyed or heavily damaged many homes. The county’s Road Operations employees worked long hours to clear the streets in that neighborhood and to repair damages, the judge said. The tornado claimed the lives of six Hood County residents.
