Council denies HGMA carnival amid safety fears

The four-day carnival that was publicized for Memorial Day weekend won’t be happening. The Granbury City Council, at its regular meeting Tuesday night, denied the Special Use Permit (SUP) requested by the Historic Granbury Merchants Association (HGMA), which wanted to hold its annual fundraiser at Jerry Durant Toyota off U.S. Hwy. 377 instead of the Granbury Reunion Grounds. One council member – Tony Allen – wanted to allow the event to move forward, but others on the council were swayed by concerns about possible traffic accidents on 377 due to backed-up traffic or motorists trying to cross lanes of high-speed traffic.
