Commissioners to address problems with property tax collections

The Commissioners Court will discuss alleged problems surrounding Tax Assessor-Collector Teresa McCoy’s take-over of property tax collections at its regular meeting on Tuesday. McCoy will presumably be present to give her side of the situation. Commissioners said at their last court meeting that they wanted McCoy to be present for their next meeting on Feb. 13 in order to provide explanations for slow and sporadic deposits to county coffers and other related issues. Court members will also hold a two-hour workshop on Wednesday to further discuss the situation. The Commissioners Court meeting will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Hood County Justice Center, 1200 W. Pearl St. The workshop on Wednesday will be held from 10 a.m. until noon in the second floor courtroom at the courthouse on the square. Both meetings are open to the public.
