GRANBURY COACHES RESIGN

Seven coaches within the Granbury School District have resigned their coaching positions, with four leaving the district.

Pirates varsity football defensive coordinator B.J. Carlton has resigned his coaching post, but will remain as a CTE teacher at Granbury High. Dina Carlton resigned as an assistant girls basketball coach, but will stay on as special education teacher/testing coordinator.

Another Pirate varsity football assistant, Blaze Pendleton, has left the team to take a job on the staff at Cleburne, which is in Granbury’s district beginning this season.

Also, Pirate freshmen football coach Bradan Ritchey has left the program to join the staff at Brewer. Mark Maxwell, who was an assistant Pirate soccer coach, is leaving to work on his masters degree.

Brittany Carter is resigning as a girls coach at Acton Middle School, but will still teach science. Logan McGill, P.E. teacher and coach, is leaving AMS to join the staff at Paris.

FORMER PIRATE HELPS

TEAM WIN ALL-STAR GAME

Former Granbury Pirate Bart Helsey, the head coach at Keller Central High School, was defensive coordinator for the West Team in last weekend’s Oil Bowl in Wichita Falls. He coordinated a 28-0 shutout victory.

RATTLERS SEEK 7-ON-7

STATE FOOTBALL BERTH

The Tolar Rattlers are playing in their final 7-on-7 football tournament of the summer today in Boyd. A finish among the top two teams will qualify them for next month’s state tournament in College Station.

The Rattlers came close to qualifying last weekend at Tarleton State University. After going 3-0 and winning their pool, they were defeated in the semifinals by Sweetwater.

Tolar was also 2-1 in a tournament at McGregor.

FIRECRACKER 5K RUN

The Lake Granbury Kiwanis Club will host the Firecracker 5K Run July 4 at 8:15 a.m. The race starts at Tidwell Field.

Registration is $25 for ages 11 and over, $20 for 10 and under and 65-plus. Add $5 for registration on day of race. T-shirts are guaranteed to those who register before Wednesday.

Overall male/female winners will receive $25 gift cards from Chicken Express. Top male/female finishers in each age group will receive a $15 gift card from Chicken Express.

The course is certified by USA Track and Field and will be chip timed.
