Pirates stay in front

April 16, 2014

The Granbury Pirates remained tied with Arlington Heights atop the District 7-4A baseball standings with a 10-0 whitewashing of Western Hills Friday.

Granbury pitchers Landon Weatherly and Payton Rhodes combined to pitch a two-hitter. Weatherly struck out seven over three and a third innings.

It’s only the second time in 10 district games that the Pirates (15-7, 9-1 in District 7-4A) have not had a pitcher throw a complete game.

“We’ve got playoffs coming up, so it’s good to get some guys a little extra work,” said Granbury coach Brad Eppler.

Weatherly, Rhodes and Nathan Hickey each had two of the Pirates’ hits.
