Chelsea Judge’s Granbury High golf career will continue for a little longer.
Judge, a senior, has qualified for Wednesday and Thursday’s Class 4A Region I Tournament in Abilene. It is her second consecutive year to qualify individually, along with leading the team to regionals in 2012.
She advanced this year by shooting a two-day total of 187 at the District 7-4A Tournament this past Tuesday and Wednesday at Pecan Valley.
Judge improved by nine strokes from the first day to the second, dropping from a 98 to an 89. She finished 10th overall, but is one of the top two individuals not on Aledo Black or Orange, the top two teams.
The first- and second-place teams qualified for regionals, along with the top two players not on those teams. The other individual medalist to qualify was Makenna Barbara of Arlington Heights, who shot 180 (91-89) for eighth place.
“I am happy to see Chelsea get to advance in her final year,” said Lady Pirate coach Becky Addison.
“She is a very special young lady and I will miss her greatly.
“Her energy is amazing, and I know she will be successful in whatever she chooses to do after high school.
“I would love to see her shoot her career-best rounds next for her grand finale. If she does, it could mean a ticket to the state tournament.”
As a team, the Lady Pirates Purple team was third with a 762, improving from an opening-day 388 to 374 on the second.
Aledo Black, which is seeking a third consecutive trip to state, won with a 624, easily topping Aledo Orange’s 727.
Cheyenne Knight of Aledo Black was the top medalist, shooting 1-over-par 141 (69-72), 19 shots ahead of teammate Taylor Brookshire.
Judge has been nothing if not consistent at the Diamondback Golf Course in Abilene. Last month for a regional preview, Judge posted a 191 (98-93). Last season at regionals, she shot 192 (96-96), and two years she had the low score for the team at 191 (98-93).
Judge is also the lone senior.
“I am very proud of all 10 of these young ladies,” said Addison.
“The future for Lady Pirate golf is very good with the potential in this group.”
