Pitchers Destini Lopez and Kristen Money combined to pitch a no-hitter, and the Granbury Lady Pirates had little trouble winning 11-0 at Trimble Tech Tuesday.
The victory improved the Lady Pirates (14-5 overall) to 9-2 in District 7-4A softball. More important, it moved them back into a tie with South Hills (17-6, 9-2) for second place in district, two games behind Aledo.
Granbury was hosting South Hills last night. When the teams met in Fort Worth last month, the Lady Scorpions won 2-1 despite being outhit 6-1 by the Lady Pirates.
While the Lady Pirates and Lady Scorpions are both playoff-bound, where they are in the final district standings is critical, Smith said.
“The next three games are so important for positioning,” said Smith. “Second place will give us a better first round out of district.”
Along with South Hills last night, the Lady Pirates host Aledo Tuesday and travel to Western Hills next Friday (April 18).
Lopez struck out five and walked one in five innings. Money came on for the sixth inning, walking one and striking out one before the game was called because of the 10-run mercy rule.
Lopez also had a pair of doubles batting, while Money had one. Whitley Tipton also had two doubles.
In their past three games, the Lady Pirates have surrendered one hit. Money had a one-hitter in a five-inning 11-0 win over Arlington Heights the previous Friday, followed by her three-inning 16-0 no-hit win over O.D. Wyatt.
