All proceeds from Tolar’s Thursday’s football scrimmage, and Granbury’s scrimmage versus Stephenville on Friday will be donated to the Texas High School Coaches Education Foundation’s Benevolence Fund.
The Pirates will be at home with a 7 p.m. start against former district rival Stephenville. The Rattlers will be at home Thursday against Dublin with a 6:30 p.m. start.
The annual event is known as “Our Day to Shine.” It benefits student-athletes and coaches who have serious, catastrophic injuries or other hardships. The money, which goes into a statewide THSCEF fund, is given based on a review process, Tolar coach Mike Franklin said.
A GISD news release stated that those attending the Stephenville scrimmage will be asked for a $2 donation as they enter Pirate Stadium. The freshmen will scrimmage Stephenville at 5 p.m. The junior varsity action is set to start at 6 p.m.
Donations also will also be accepted at the gate at Rattler Stadium in Tolar.
The scrimmage, Tolar’s last one before the regular season begins on Aug. 22, is set to start at 6:30 p.m. It was originally scheduled for an earlier start, but was changed because of the hot temperatures.
The THSCEF was established by the Texas High School Coaches Association Board of Directors. More than 800 schools have participated in Our Day to Shine, raising more than $245,000. The THSCA has given more than $175,000 to athletes and coaches with special needs.
