The Granbury Pirates finished up their first week of preseason football practice with an intrasquad scrimmage Saturday morning at Pirate Stadium. The defensive units dominated overall, picking off several passes and recovering a fumble. GHS head coach Scotty Pugh said that the first and second teams ran about 16 plays each, and the third team ran about eight plays in the scrimmage, which included some down-and-distance snaps and lasted a little over an hour in all. “We threw a lot at them this first week and they did a good job of retaining it,” Pugh said. “Overall, I was pleased.” Next week, leading up to Friday’s first scrimmage – at home against Wichita Falls Hirschi, 6:30 p.m. – the Pirates will continue with morning workouts, from 7-9:30.
