Legendary Paris High School coach from Granbury dies

J.T. Davis, 79, a Paris High School golf coach who led the Fighting Wildcats to five state championships died June 5. Davis played baseball and football at Southern Methodist University alongside future NFL greats Don Meredith and Forest Gregg. At SMU, he played under then assistant coach Hank Stram who later coached the Kansas City Chiefs. In the 1980’s, Davis was instrumental in forming the Texas High School Golf Coaches Association which has grown to be a driving force in the high school golf ranks in North Texas. Davis lived in Granbury for the last nine years of his life with his wife, Karol. Funeral services were held Friday at Evergreen Cemetery in Paris.
