10-5-2013 Sure, there was plenty of smokin’ and jokin’ going on, but the cooking team from VFW Post 7835 was serious about good food at the VFW-hosted Smokin’ & Jokin’ Bar-b-que Cookoff. Several cooking team members gathered for a group photo next to the smoker they use for competitions. The Lone Star B-B-Q Society-sanctioned event drew plenty of competition from Hood and surrounding counties. Categories included pinto beans, Texas red chili, chicken, pork spare ribs, pork butt and brisket.
