A cat hoarder voluntarily surrendered 28 of her 32 felines to Animal Control last week, and several of them had to be euthanized due to contagious diseases.
That’s according to Animal Control Sergeant Kelly McNab, who emphasized the incident as an example of what can go wrong when pet owners fail to take proper care and precautions for their animals.
Animal Control received a tip about the situation.
Most of the cats were inside the house, while some were kept outside in an enclosure.
“None of them were spayed and neutered,” McNab said. “All of them had ringworm and most of them had upper respiratory infections. Both are highly contagious. The feces and the urine made the air quality poor.”
McNab said anyone with such problems – or who may realize that a similar situation is developing – should call Animal Control at 817-573-4277 before their animals get into a situation in which they are suffering.
There are low-cost spay and neuter options available.
