Filing to begin soon for city, ISD elections

July 5, 2014

The filing period for several city and school elections will open later this month.

Elections are planned for: the city of Granbury and Granbury ISD; the city of Tolar and Tolar ISD; the city of Cresson; the city of deCordova; Bluff Dale ISD; and the city of Stockton Bend.

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 4.

City and school elections could be cancelled if no one files to challenge any incumbents seeking re-election.

The filing period begins July 19.

However, since the 19th is a Saturday – when city and school offices are closed – the filing period effectively begins on Monday the 21st.

The deadline to file is 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 18.

In Granbury city races, it will be Places 4 and 6 that will be on the November ballot.

Those seats currently are held by Rose Myers and Mickey Parson, respectively.

Myers has only been in office a few months.

She was elected to fill the time remaining for the seat vacated by Nin Hulett, who ran for mayor and was elected.

Candidate packets can be downloaded from the city secretary page on the city’s website (www.granbury.org).

Packets can also be obtained at the city secretary’s office on the second floor of Granbury City Hall, 116 W. Bridge St.

On the Granbury School Board of trustees, terms will be expiring for Don Walton in Place 1 and Barbara Herrington in Place 2.
