Patients will be contacted regarding data breach

August 23, 2014

A special telephone line has been established by (LGMC) and Lakeside Physicians group to handle questions regarding the criminal cyber attack reported earlier this week. The local contact number is 817-579-2888 for those with concerns.

“Though we have no reason to believe that this data would ever be used, all affected patients are being notified by letter and offered free identity theft protection,” said spokeswoman Dixie Lee Hedgecock of Lake Granbury Medical Center.

The transferred information includes names, addresses, birthdates, telephone numbers and social security numbers. It does not include any medical information or credit card information.

Community Health Systems, Inc. (CHS) reports the intrusion has been eradicated and applications have been deployed to protect against future attacks.

“We take very seriously the security and confidentiality of private patient information and we sincerely regret any concern or inconvenience to patients,” said Hedgecock.

“Our organization believes the intruder was a foreign-based group out of China using highly sophisticated methods to bypass security systems,” she explained.

According to the CHS website, the organization’s affiliates own, operate or lease 206 hospitals in 29 states, including Lake Granbury Medical Center in Granbury.

Officials are working with federal law enforcement authorities in their investigation and will support prosecution of those responsible for this attack.
