Wm. Albert Schmidt Sr. and Ruby Loyce Jackson recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary with their family and caregivers at Granbury Villa where Ruby resides.
The Schmidts were married at the North Fort Worth Baptist Church in Fort Worth on May 8, 1942. They lived in Fort Worth where Albert worked as a plumber in the family business at the Schmidt Plumbing Company.
Mr. Schmidt served as a mechanic with the Aviation Engineers in the Army Air Corp in Okinawa during WWII. He retired from plumbing and moved with Ruby to deCordova Bend Estates in Granbury in 1990.
Albert was recently honored for his 50 years as a Master Mason. Ruby is a fifth generation Texan and was active in historical and genealogical organizations before retirement.
She compiled the “Fort Worth and Tarrant County Historical Guide” published in 1984 as well as taught classes in oral history, local history and genealogy.
Albert and Ruby attended Sagamore Hill Baptist Church where Ruby taught Sunday school for 25 years.
The Schmidts raised three sons in Fort Worth. The children and their spouses are William A. Schmidt Jr., deceased, Jim and Ann Schmidt of Granbury, and Dr. Paul and Celeste Schmidt of Glen Rose.
Five grandchildren include, Gretchen and Jeff Vaughan of Studio City, Calif., Justin Schmidt of Granbury, Allison and Nathaniel Lounsbury of Austin, Erika Schmidt of San Francisco, Calif., and Maria Schmidt of Golden, Colo.
The three great-grandchildren are Zoë and Garrett Vaughan of Studio City, Calif. and Gabriel Lounsbury of Austin.
