John and Linda Meyer of Granbury celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary with a hot air balloon ride and dinner at the Bistro de Champêtre in Paris, France on Sunday, June 30, 2013.

John W. Meyer and the former Linda Douglas were married on June 30, 1973 at Bayview Baptist Church in Norfolk, Va. where John was a naval officer aboard the attack submarine USS Flying Fish (SSN 673) and where Linda taught in the Norfolk City Schools system.

After leaving the Navy, John took a job with Westinghouse, and the couple moved to Greensburg, Pa. Subsequent transfers took them to Knoxville, Tenn. and Pittsburgh, Pa. before they arrived in Granbury in 1979. John went to work for Texas Utilities in 1987 and retired in 2010 as technical support manager after a 31-year career at Comanche Peak.

Linda was a vice-president and Acton branch manager at Community Bank before becoming a French teacher and assistant tennis coach at Granbury Middle School and Granbury High School. She retired from GISD in 2007 and is now a flight attendant for Delta Air Lines based in Detroit and working as a French speaker on flights to Paris. She is a member of Acton United Methodist Church.

John and Linda have two children: Dr. Colin Meyer, married to Jessica Meyer, and granddaughters, Kayla, Alexis, and Audrey, of Southlake; and Ashleigh Clelland, married to Josh Clelland, and granddaughter, Chloe, of Fairbanks, Alaska.

The couple will celebrate their anniversary a second time in October with a trip to the Himalayas in Nepal.
