Roy and Wyleta Malone, of deCordova Bend Estates, recently celebrated their 65th anniversary.
On the afternoon of Friday, March 25, 1949, Roy applied for a marriage license only to be denied because he was not yet 21 years of age.
Roy pleaded with the judge and, along with the vouch of a cousin who worked in the office, Judge Hardwick agreed to issue the license on Roy’s word that he and Wyleta would not get married before Roy’s birthday on April 1.
Roy Malone and the former Wyleta Anderson were married Saturday, April 2, 1949 at the First Baptist Parsonage by Rev. Cecil McBeth in Meridian.
Roy is retired from Penry Construction of Fort Worth.
Wyleta is retired from Metro Fire and Battery of Fort Worth.
The couple have three children; James Malone, a real estate salesman in New York City, Ellen Malone, an accountant for Tarrant County Medical Society in Fort Worth, and Dr. Patrick Malone, a dentist in Fort Worth; one grandchild, Heather Vowell and one great-grandchild, A.J. Vowell.
