Take time for fall chores

Today may too cold for outside work, but the weather will warm during the week to tend to fall chores in the garden.

Tend to fall blooming perennials, such as chrysanthemums, asters, Mexican mint marigold and Mexican bush sage by removing spent blooms and damaged foliage.

Fall is also a great time to add perennials to the garden.

Inspect your irrigation system. Making needed repairs now will better ensure that there are no leaks during winter.

In the absence of rain, irrigate every three to four weeks through winter.

Plant trees and shrubs fall through winter.

Deadhead roses and remove dead or diseased foliage from around plants.

Refrain from pruning until late winter.
