Singing and barbecue Saturday

This weekend, Cancer Care Services will sponsor a Cancer Care Benefit Show.

On Saturday, The Judge and the Jury, featuring District Judge Ralph Walton, will perform gospel music, in addition to gospel singers Larry Hawkins and Hardie Moore, according to Patsy Parr, a board committee member in Fort Worth and the chair of the Hood County location.

The event, which starts at 6 p.m., has been held twice before and will be located in Celebration Hall at Granbury Live on the square.

“We need to give thanks to them for being our premiere sponsor,” Parr said about Granbury Live. “They’re giving us a lot of stuff that we would normally have to pay for – they’re very generous. We’re renting the facility, but they are letting us use the Celebration Hall, and we’ll be using their sound system and sound man, and they’re not charging us for that.”

In addition to the support by their venue, Cancer Care Services has 10 other local business and individual sponsors for the event, according to Parr.

“We appreciate everyone that supports us throughout the year,” she said.

Cancer Care Services will provide pulled pork sandwiches, chicken salad, dessert and beverages.

And spots are going quickly.

“I’m so excited. We’ve almost sold all of our tickets,” Parr said.

Out of 270 seats in the facility, around 250 or more have sold, according to Parr.

Cancer Care Services provides counseling, gas cards, medical equipment, emergency funds, therapy, and emotional, nutritional and financial support, among other services.

This event will raise funds for the organization, but that isn’t the primary goal, according to Parr.

“This is just to keep awareness out there that we are here and we want to help. And it gives us that little extra money,” she said. This event generally raises close to $6,000.

“Getting our name out there is a tremendous feat in itself, because we want people to utilize our services if they need it.”

Tickets are $20 each.
