Benefit Sunday for families of slain, injured lawmen

A fundraiser will be held Sunday evening to benefit the families of Lance McLean and Chad Davis – law officers who were recently shot in the line of duty.

Sgt. Lance McLean, a deputy with the Hood County Sheriff’s Office, was killed. Granbury police officer Chad Davis was wounded and faces a lengthy recovery.

The fundraiser will be held at Farina’s Winery & Cafe on the square by Granbury City Hall. Owner Gary Farina narrowly escaped death or injury on Friday, June 28, when an armed Ricky Don McCommas pulled into the parking lot next to Farina’s and was killed in a shootout with law enforcement. McCommas had fled Oak Trail Shores, where officials say he fired the bullet that mortally wounded McLean when the deputy responded to a disturbance call.

The fundraiser will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 each, and all proceeds will go to the officers’ families, according to bed and breakfast owner Tom Baker.

Brenda Hyde of the Historic Granbury Merchants Association said that HGMA will provide a dessert – probably cake.

Farina’s, she said, will provide two entrees – lasagna and chicken alfredo – along with salad, bread and tea or water.

There will be live entertainment, as well as silent and live auctions.

For tickets or more information, contact the HGMA at 817-573-5299.

The restaurant has a capacity for 200 diners, Hyde said. Any tickets not sold in advance can be purchased at the door.
