School board candidate withdraws

Don W. Hooper, one of four candidates in the Place 3 race for the Granbury School Board, withdrew from the race Wednesday morning, the day after former Democratic Party Chair Robert Vick sent letters to GISD and Elections Administrator Crickett Miller claiming that Hooper did not meet the six-month residency requirement. Vick’s letter stated that appraisal district records show Hooper’s homestead exemption to be in Missouri City in Fort Bend County, where records show he voted in the March 6 Republican primary. Hooper told the HCN that he has long maintained two homes, one of which is in Hood County, and that he mistakenly thought he was eligible to seek the school board seat.
