Rattlers charge into area playoff

GRANDVIEW – Tolar’s defense was dominant Friday night as the Rattlers downed the Bosqueville Bulldogs 32-13 in their Class 2A, Div. I football bidistrict playoff game at Zebra Stadium.

Coach Mike Franklin’s Rattlers (8-3) held the Bulldogs (7-4) to just 59 yards of total offense through three quarters.

CHICO – The Lady Rattlers, district volleyball champions for the first time in school history, advanced to the regional quarterfinals when they beat Blue Ridge Saturday afternoon at Chico High School in their area playoff match, 25-14, 25-23, 25-22.

Tolar took on Collinsville last night in Bridgeport.

Rattlers thrash De Leon in playoff prep

TOLAR – Tolar finished the regular season with a 49-7 pounding of the De Leon Bearcats Friday at Rattler Stadium, having previously clinched a playoff berth by securing second place in the District 7-2A, Div. I football standings.

The Rattlers are now poised for a rematch with Bosqueville on Friday night in the bidistrict round of the playoffs.

Having only one senior might be a major drawback for most high school teams, but so far so good for the state-ranked Tolar volleyball squad.

The Lady Rattlers won their first-ever district title this season and will be taking on Blue Ridge today at 2 p.m.

Tolar girls start short-staffed

There are troops on the way for the shorthanded Tolar girls basketball squad. The catch is, there’s no guarantee when the cavalry will march into the gym.

Tolar’s volleyball team, which captured its first-ever district championship, has two players who will be key basketball players for coach Benita Carlton. They are senior Shelby Nunley and junior Laura Anderson.

SAN SABA – Legend has it that in 1935, Rogan Field in San Saba was built on top of an existing gravesite, and not all of the graves were emptied. There have been numerous instances of paranormal happenings during football games here, often in favor of the Armadillos.

Tolar wins first-ever district volleyball crown

Tolar got 19 kills from Hannah Lee and captured its first-ever district volleyball championship Saturday in Millsap, outlasting Bryson in their one-game district playoff, 21-25, 25-17, 25-21, 24-26, 15-12.

The Lady Rattlers had finished District 9-2A play tied with Bryson at 12-1, forcing the playoff to decide the champion and runner-up as well as the playoff seeding.

Club volleyball coming to Tolar

TOLAR – Tommy Matthews has visions of volleyball dancing in his head – and they’re about to become reality.

He’s teaming with Katie Covell, a senior volleyball player at Tarleton State University, to develop a club team in Tolar. Covell is the director and coach.

The groundbreaking for the future business – to be known as the Urban Volleyball Club – was held Wednesday.

TOLAR – The Tolar Rattlers notched their sixth win in eight outings this season Friday at Rattler Stadium, drilling the Eagles of Goldthwaite 39-26 in a key District 7-2A, Div. 1 football contest.

The Rattlers were dominant, rushing for 365 yards – a yard more than Goldthwaite’s total offensive output of 364 yards.

Lady Rattlers have shot at district title

The final two district volleyball games for the playoff-bound and 16th-ranked Tolar volleyball team still could prove to be crucial for the Lady Rattlers, who are tied for first place with Bryson.

Tuesday’s 25-21, 25-19, 22-25, 25-18 victory over Ranger clinched the first playoff spot for the Lady Rattlers since 2009.
