Tolar track looks to youth and 2016

Always one to think ahead, Tolar track coach Gregg Lee couldn’t help but smile when thinking about next season.

“There’s some good kids from this meet who have a good chance to get back here, and there’s more who have a chance to join them,” he said.

“Take our girls. Everybody who went to area and regionals – and state – are back.”

The highlight of the state meet was senior Rodie Brister winning a gold medal in pole vaulting.

Brister deserved Lady Luck’s grace

As always, a lot of people were in attendance at the University Interscholastic League State Track and Field Meet last weekend.

Including one in particular, Lady Luck. She, like many, braved the drizzle to see the Class 2A pole vaulting competition.

And, as we have seen many times before, anywhere Lady Luck goes, excitement is sure to follow.

Tolar state representation continues to get bigger

AUSTIN – Saving the best for last is the goal of any athlete. It often means winning.

Saving the best for next to last…well, there’s a reason that’s not a goal.

If the Tolar Rattlers had matched or eclipsed their time of 3:23.26 they ran in winning Region II in the 1600-meter relay, they’d have also won a gold medal at state.

Tolar baseball enjoying playoff thrill again

May 16, 2015

The last time Tolar fans were this excited about their baseball team, this current group of Rattlers were still in junior high and elementary school.

For the first time since 2010, the Rattlers find themselves playing beyond the regular season this weekend. Tolar (15-3-1) was playing Axtell (13-5-1) in a best-of-three area-round (second) playoff series, all games at Mansfield Lake Ridge High School.

Tolar proof speed only part of a good relay

There’s a reason relays count double points in a track meet.

There’s a lot more to them than being able to run fast.

One slip of the hand, a baton goes tumbling to the ground, and the speediest of quartets find themselves out of contention.

But, if a team is good at relays – as they are in Tolar – there’s a lot of points to be scored.

Tolar SB on a run

Kailee Brock watches the pitcher as the pitcher watches back, both anticipating the next move.

The pitcher knows Brock is going to break for second base, it’s just a question of will it be on this pitch or the next. The catcher is crouched, poised for a throw to try and catch Brock stealing.

Rattlers roll again

May 6, 2015

The Tolar Rattlers are back in a groove.

Rain and a natural break in the schedule kept the Rattlers off the baseball field for the better part of a couple of weeks. However, they showed no signs of rust in their most recent outing, disposing of De Leon 15-1 in a game last Thursday.
