The Rattlers reached the third round of the Class 2A, Div. I playoffs before losing to second-ranked Mart, 52-14. They finished with a 10-3 record – the most wins for Tolar football since the school moved up to 11-man football from the six-man ranks four decades ago.

Scores can be deceiving.

The boxer who knocks out his opponent in a few rounds might have actually experienced a bigger challenge than it appeared, for example.

And a sweep of a volleyball match might not be a routine victory, such as Tolar coach Scotty Miller can attest to following Tuesday 25-23, 25-14, 25-21 win at Hico.

Lady Rattlers awaken to put away De Leon in 4

August 15, 2015

Tolar volleyball coach Scotty Miller said his team was playing “ho-hum” through most of the early part of Tuesday’s season-pening 25-18, 25-14, 18-25, 25-7 home victory over De Leon.

Despite their slow start, the Lady Rattlers managed to win the first two sets. After losing the third set, Miller told his experienced squad – which lost only one senior off of last year’s 27-12 team – to figure out how to pull out of its funk and avoid having to play a fifth game.

Lady Rattlers primed for more

August 8, 2015

Last season launched Tolar’s volleyball program into orbit, and fans of the Lady Rattlers must be wondering what galaxy the team can reach in the 2015 campaign.

Coach Scotty Miller lost just one senior from last year’s District 9-2A champion squad that reached the Region II-2A regional quarterfinal round of the playoffs.
