Tolar atop district 10-2A golf after first round

The Tolar Rattlers lead the District 10-2A Boys Golf Tournament following the first day of play.

The Rattlers shot 393 Monday at Canyon West Golf Club in Weatherford. That gives them a five-stroke advantage over De Leon entering the second and final round of competition Monday in Par Country Club in Comanche.

Rattlers post another rout

When Brandon Northcutt comes to the plate for the Tolar Rattlers baseball team, there’s a good chance he’s getting a base hit.

Northcutt is batting .800 for the Rattlers (7-1-1), who lambasted two more District 13-2A opponents Monday and Tuesday.

In Monday’s 26-0 win over Lipan, Northcutt was 3-for-4 with four RBIs.

The Tolar Rattlers overcame a slow start to the basketball season to reach the playoffs.

That late surge and postseason experience will come in handy when four of the Rattlers’ eight All-District 10-2A selections return next season.

Leading the way for the Rattlers is sophomore Will Bonnell. He was selected for the Sixth Man Award by the league’s coaches.

Ranger rallies past Indians late

March 28, 2015

Ranger scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning Wednesday to down the Lipan Indians 7-4 in a District 13-2A baseball game.

The contest was tied at 3-3 entering the seventh inning. The Indians (0-2 overall, both district games) rallied with a single run in the bottom of the inning, but not enough.

Tolar boys win another, girls take second again

The Tolar Rattlers stayed perfect this track season, running to first place in their own Rattler Relays Thursday at Tolar High School.

The Rattlers scored 176 points to edge runner-up Whitney with 162 points. District foe Hico was a distant third with 88.

The Lady Rattlers finished second with 108 points.

Lady Rattlers stay on roll into district

Through their first 11 games, the Tolar Lady Rattlers scored 59 runs.

In the past three they’ve plated 55.

The Lady Rattlers’ latest offensive explosion was a 20-1 win at Santo Tuesday to open District 11-2A.

They also got a strong pitching performance from Staci Ashley, who hurled a no-hitter. She struck out 11 of the 13 batters she faced, missing a perfect game by walking just one batter.

They don’t hold spring football in Tolar, but one couldn’t tell by looking at the scores of the baseball team.

In their first two District 13-2A games, the Rattlers have been scoring more like a football team. Tolar has hung a total of 51 runs on its opponents while giving up just one.

Peregrino tops Tolar All-10-2A picks

Hannah Peregrino capped her Tolar Lady Rattlers basketball career in grand fashion. The senior was named the Most Valuable Player of District 10-2A by the league’s coaches.

Peregrino is one of five Lady Rattlers honored. Senior Meredith Caudle was named to the first team, while senior Shelby Nunley was chosen for the second team.

Roberts, Peregrino named TGCA All-State

Lanie Roberts and Hannah Peregrino each led their teams to great success this season, and now each has been recognized by the Texas Girls Coaches Association for their accomplishments.

Both have been named to the All-State Teams in their respective classes (1A for Roberts, 2A for Peregrino). Each is among the top 40 players in Texas in their class.

Rattlers run away with first track meet

The Tolar Rattlers ran their first track meet of the season Thursday, but judging from the results, the weather delays of recent weeks didn’t hold them back.

The Rattlers scored 182 points to easily outdistance runner-up and host Hico with 119 at the Hico High School Tiger Relays.

The Lady Rattlers finished second in their division, scoring 126 points to 159 for Hamilton.
