Rattlers whack De Leon, 67-50

The Tolar boys basketball team bounced back from last week’s first district loss with a 67-50 road win over De Leon, getting 23 of their points from the post players.

Coach Kent Caruthers’ Rattlers are now 4-1 in District 10-2A and 7-13 overall.

The Rattlers benefitted from the return of one starter, and are about to get another one back.

Lady Rattlers stay unbeaten in district

Notch one more in the District 10-2A girls basketball win column for the Tolar Lady Rattlers.

The Lady Rattlers socked De Leon, 51-14, Tuesday night on the road.

The victory enabled Tolar to maintain its lead over the rest of the pack, with a 7-0 district mark.

Liz Bonnell and Hannah Peregrino were the top scorers for the Lady Rattlers, with a dozen points each.

Rattlers suffer first district loss

After the Tolar Rattlers went scoreless in the fourth quarter Friday in their 56-45 District 10-2A boys basketball road loss to Hamilton, coach Kent Caruthers had a simple observation.

“We could not get a basket,” Caruthers said, noting, “We missed several layups and several easy shots.”

After a slow start this season in nondistrict, the Tolar boys had taken the early lead in district play, winning their first three contests.

Lady Rattlers move to 6-0

The Tolar girls basketball team rallied from a 7-point fourth-quarter deficit Friday night in Hamilton to grab a 47-44 triumph to close out the first half of District 10-2A play unbeaten.

The Lady Rattlers (6-0, 13-8 overall), completed their comeback courtesy of two free throws by Hannah Peregrino plus a Laura Anderson layup in the closing seconds of the game.

The Tolar Lady Rattlers kept up their district-leading basketball pace Tuesday night at home, getting 21 points from Hannah Peregrino and dominating the Ranger girls, 61-28.

Coach Benita Carlton’s team remained alone in first place in District 10-2A, at 5-0. Hico is second at 4-1, while Goldthwaite and Santo are tied for third, at 3-2.

Tolar’s boys basketball squad remained unbeaten in district play, overwhelming Ranger 75-17 Tuesday night at home.

Coach Kent Caruthers’ Rattlers continued their remarkable turnaround. The Rattlers had a disastrous start this season – due in large part by multiple injuries – and have progressed to grabbing the early lead in the District 10-2A race.

The Tolar boys basketball team held off Santo Tuesday night on the road, 54-51, to advance to 2-0 in District 10-2A play.

Bryce Farmer paced the Rattlers in scoring with 22 points. Hunter Ryan added 7 points, plus a team-high 7 rebounds.

Two of the Rattlers fouled out of the game.

TOLAR – The Tolar girls basketball team’s confidence is starting to grow, and so is the Lady Rattlers’ win total.

Coach Benita Carlton’s Lady Rattlers overcame a slow first quarter Friday night and posted a key 44-38 District 10-2A victory over state-ranked Hico in Rattler Gym.

Tolar improved to 3-0 in district and 10-8 overall.

TOLAR – The Tolar Rattlers opened district basketball play Friday night at home with a runaway 61-28 triumph over Hico – possibly sending a message that their season record means nothing from this point on.

Tolar, which has been hampered by multiple injuries and a slow start, won for just the fourth time in 16 outings.
