Lady Pirates keep playoff hopes intact

Down by as many as 10 points in the second quarter, Granbury used a 28-1 run for a 42-27 victory against visiting Everman in a District 8-5A basketball game.

The win was critical for the Lady Pirates (5-6 in district), who were tied with Cleburne. Granbury was hosting Cleburne last night, with the winner having the inside track to the fourth playoff berth.

Granbury soccer teams split at Everman

Granbury Lady Pirates soccer coach David Winkleman has stressed that every team in District 8-5A is good.

So his Lady Pirates will just have to be better.

And they are doing just that, having knocked off both opponents in league play, the most recent a 4-0 win at Everman Friday.

Marissa Baird and Lauren Wood each scored a pair of goals to lead the Granbury offense.

GHS qualifies 27 swimmers for regionals

Success loves company.

For a second straight season the Granbury Lady Pirates won the District 7-5A Swimming Championships.

And this season the Pirates joined them.

The Lady Pirates easily outdistanced runner-up Aledo, 155-97. Meanwhile, the Pirates outswam Fort Worth Arlington Heights 176-141.

“believe our team showed their stripes,” said Granbury coach Jason Pullano.

Lady Crusaders drop heartbreaker on home court

The Cornerstone Lady Crusaders rallied in the second half but came up a point shy Friday, falling at home to Stephenville Faith, 41-40.

Canaan Horn led Cornerstone (4-10) with 18 points. Reagan Ives had nine assists, Stevie McCoy had eight steals, and Haiey Merrithew grabbed eight rebounds.

Cornerstone trailed by three points with 12 seconds left in the game.

NCTA girls coast again

The North Central Texas Academy Lady Pioneers outscored their hosts in every quarter on the way to a 48-17 victory at Wichita Falls Christ Academy Friday.

Camille Baud led the Lady Pioneers with 17 points, while Emma Hickman added 11. Lilian Ijeh had 13 rebounds.

North Central TexasAcademy, the five-time defending TAPPS Class A state champions improved to 8-6 overall and 5-0 in Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools District 2-A.

Pioneers win by 50 on road

The North Central Texas Academy Pioneers had little difficulty on the road Friday night, winning 71-21 at Wichita Falls Christ Academy.

Marko Jovanovic led the two-time defending TAPPS Class A state champs with 15 points. Luis Rivas added 14.

“We played well on the road. We started a little slow, but picked up pretty quickly,” said Pioneers coach Kirby Rasco.

Crusaders win clutch district contest

The Cornerstone Crusaders rallied late to win a critical district game against Weatherford Christian Tuesday at home.

The Crusaders finished the game with an 11-3 run for a 39-33 victory.

Cornerstone (7-11 overall) is 3-2 in the Texas Christian Athletic Fellowship Division II District 1 standings. They are chasing a playoff berth.

Led by the play of Camille Baud and Korede Ahmedu, the North Central Texas Academy Lady Pioneers defeated visiting Weatherford Home School 66-36 Tuesday.

Baud (21) and Ahmedu (18) combined for 39 points. Each also had four assists. Baud added four steals and Ahmedu had seven rebounds.

Lilian Ijeh had 12 points, eight rebounds and four assists.

The North Central Texas Academy Pioneers got 22 points from Marko Jovanovic en route to a 59-39 victory against visiting Weatherford Home School Tuesday night.

The Pioneers (12-4 overall) improved to 5-0 in Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools District 2-A.

Andrija Ristanovic and Luis Rivas each added 13 points.

Crusaders, NCTA post league wins

The Cornerstone Christian Crusaders helped their postseason chances greatly with a come-from-behind 57-51 victory at Mineral Wells Community Christian Friday.

Tanner Ives (24) and Blaze Lehrman (21) combined for 45 of the Crusaders’ points. Lehrman also had 10 rebounds and five blocks. Sam Rue also grabbed 16 rebounds and Matthew Turbeville had 10.
