NCTA loses in shootout

Despite 324 yards rushing and 7 touchdowns on 29 carries from Tyler Hoskins, the North Central Texas Academy Pioneers suffered an 89-64 six-man football loss to Covenant Classical Thursday in Fort Worth.

Despite the setback, the Pioneers are still in contention for a playoff spot.

It was the only loss so far in Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools Div.

Jonesboro tops CCA

The Cornerstone Christian Academy Crusaders took a break from district football action Friday, but it was hardly a night off.

The Crusaders took on perennial six-man state power Jonesboro, which posted a 72-22 win over the visitors from Cornerstone.

The game was stopped in the third quarter on the 45-point mercy rule.

CCA win in finale will clinch playoffs

Granbury’s Cornerstone Christian Academy Crusaders rolled over Weatherford Christian on Oct. 17, 52-34, notching their second six-man football district victory and boosting their playoff hopes.

The Crusaders moved up to 2-1 in the five-team Texas Christian Athletic Federation Div. II, District 2, and 3-4 overall.

They can clinch a playoff spot with a win in their final regular-season game on Friday, Oct.

NCTA rises to 2-0 in district

With more than a little help from senior Tyler Hoskins, the North Central Texas Academy Pioneers posted their second district six-man football win in as many outings Friday, downing host Brownwood Victory Life, 44-18.

Hoskins scored five touchdowns, with one coming on a 47-yard interception return. He gained 234 yards rushing on 22 carries, and added 2 receptions for 53 yards.

NCTA wins district opener

The North Central Texas Academy Pioneers won their district football opener Thursday with help from Tyler Hoskins’ four touchdowns, but lost their quarterback for the rest of the season.

The Pioneers struggled late in the contest but held on for a 38-36 victory over Richardson Canyon Creek Christian at NCTA, improving to 3-3 on the season.

Tough opponent preps NCTA for district slate

The North Central Texas Academy Pioneers didn’t get a win Friday, but coach Kirby Rasco said the football squad played well against a tough opponent in their final nondistrict contest.

Wichita Falls Notre Dame, a state semifinalist in TAPPS Div. 1 last season, topped the Div. 3 Pioneers, 66-52, outscoring NCTA 24-6 in the third quarter.

Hammonds leads way in CC meet

The Granbury girls placed ninth and the boys were 21st in the Ken Gaston of Grand Prairie cross country meet held at Lynn Creek Park on Thursday.

Lauren Hammonds led the Lady Pirates with a 39th-place finish, at 22.05.

Dylan Goosen was the top finisher among the GHS boys, coming in 47th with an 18.36.

CCA rolls in district opener

The Cornerstone Christian Academy Crusaders got five touchdowns from Josh Beaird and thrashed Stephenville Huston Academy, 72-25, in their Texas Christian Athletic Fellowship Div. 2, District 1 six-man football opener Friday night on the road.

The game was called in the fourth quarter on the 45-point mercy rule after the Crusaders racked up 668 yards in total offense against Huston (0-3).
