The state-ranked North Central Texas Academy girls blitzed Brownwood Victory Life, 45-6, Tuesday night at home for their second district basketball win.

The NCTA girls (10-3) are No. 13 in the latest Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools rankings for small private schools.

The Lady Pioneers are now 2-0 in their District 2-A Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools alignment.

NCTA girls dominate road game

The state-ranked North Central Texas Academy Lady Pioneers were just back from a lengthy holiday when they took on Wichita Christian on the road Friday night in Wichita Falls, but the result was an overwhelming win.

The Lady Pioneers rolled over Wichita Christian, 38-4, in their Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools district basketball opener.

Pioneers start district with win

The North Central Texas Academy Pioneers cruised past Wichita Christian, 70-50, Friday night in Wichita Falls.

It was the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools district opener for the teams, and marked the return to action for the Pioneers after their lengthy holiday break.

Marko Vulovic and Swan Ayada scored 25 points each for NCTA.

CCA boys rip Weatherford, 107-35

January 14, 2015

The Cornerstone Christian Academy boys overwhelmed Weatherford Christian Academy Friday in their Texas Christian Athletic Fellowship basketball district opener at home, 107-35.

Daniel Martinez led the way offensively for the Crusaders, with 25 points.

Teammates Blaze Lehrman and Jake Yackle scored 23 and 20 points, respectively, for Cornerstone, which improved to 10-6 on the season.

Cornerstone teams split with JCSA

Granbury Cornerstone Christian Academy split a pair of basketball games Tuesday night in Cleburne against the Johnson County Sports Association.

Coach Richard Lauer’s CCA Lady Crusaders led off the night but lost, 36-24.

They were led offensively by Taryn Hurst with 10 points. Teammate Haley Merrithew posted a team-high 8 rebounds.

CCA third in tourney

The Cornerstone Christian Academy Crusaders demolished Stephenville Huston Academy, 70-17, on Saturday evening to capture third place in the Stephenville Faith Knights New Year’s Classic boys basketball Classic. The Crusaders (8-6) were defeated by a 54-48 margin by Stephenville Faith School on Saturday morning in the first round.

In a tournament hosted by Nazarene Christian School in Crowley early last week, the Crusaders were defeated by Nazarene Christian, 70-53, in the third-place game there.

NCTA girls fall to large 5A school

The North Central Texas Academy Lady Pioneers ran into a buzzsaw Monday night in a nondistrict girls basketball contest at home.

Parish Episcopal – a Class 5A private school out of Dallas – rolled to a 69-42 win over the Lady Pioneers.

“This was by far the toughest game we have played,” NCTA girls coach Jodie Stevens said.

Multiple CCA players all-state

Cornerstone Christian Academy players were voted to five spots on offense and three on defense on the 2014 Texas Christian Athletic Federation’s Div. II football first-team all-state list.

The first-team all-state performers named on the all-state first-team offense are receiver Kyle Hutto, tight end/split end Daniel Martinez, center Logan Weems, spread back Tanner Ives and utility back Josh Beaird.

CCA boys have high hopes

The Cornerstone Christian Academy boys basketball team has just one returning starter this season, but coach Chris Eikenhorst seems confident that the Crusdaers are headed for a bold playoff run.

This is Eikenhorst’s first year coaching at CCA. He most recently the Arlington High Point Preparatory Academy boys to a 72-10 record in three seasons there, including a Texas Christian Athletic Fellowship Div.
