NCTA girls fall to large 5A school

The North Central Texas Academy Lady Pioneers ran into a buzzsaw Monday night in a nondistrict girls basketball contest at home.

Parish Episcopal – a Class 5A private school out of Dallas – rolled to a 69-42 win over the Lady Pioneers.

“This was by far the toughest game we have played,” NCTA girls coach Jodie Stevens said.

Multiple CCA players all-state

Cornerstone Christian Academy players were voted to five spots on offense and three on defense on the 2014 Texas Christian Athletic Federation’s Div. II football first-team all-state list.

The first-team all-state performers named on the all-state first-team offense are receiver Kyle Hutto, tight end/split end Daniel Martinez, center Logan Weems, spread back Tanner Ives and utility back Josh Beaird.

CCA boys have high hopes

The Cornerstone Christian Academy boys basketball team has just one returning starter this season, but coach Chris Eikenhorst seems confident that the Crusdaers are headed for a bold playoff run.

This is Eikenhorst’s first year coaching at CCA. He most recently the Arlington High Point Preparatory Academy boys to a 72-10 record in three seasons there, including a Texas Christian Athletic Fellowship Div.

CCA girls lose, boys win on road

The Cornerstone Christian Academy girls basketball team struggled Tuesday night, having several players out with injuries in a 39-21 nondistrict road loss to Arlington St. Paul Academy.

The Lady Crusaders (1-3) had four of their top six players sidelined in the game and had only seven healthy enough to compete in the game, according to coach Richard Lauer.

NCTA players named all-state

Two seniors who played key roles in helping North Central Texas Academy reach the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools Div. III football state semifinals have received first-team all-state recognition, while another made the second team.

NCTA’s Tyler Hoskins was voted first-team all-state on both offense and defense – as a running back as well as a defensive back.

NCTA cagers strong again

The North Central Texas Academy boys basketball team joined the school’s girls in winning a Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools state championship last season – and coach Kirby Rasco thinks the Pioneers can be just as good this time around.

Despite losing three starters to graduation and another who transferred to another school, Rasco said he thinks the talent level is there to repeat.

Four players from the Texas Christian Athletic Fellowship Div. II state finalist Cornerstone Christian Academy Crusaders are competing today in the Texas Private Schools Six-Man Football All-Star Game in Azle.

Josh Beaird, Logan Weems, Dylan Overstreet and Michael Marcel were nominated by their CCA coach, Chris Eikenhorst, and selected for the game.

New CCA girls coach in 46th season

Among the things new Cornerstone Christian Academy girls basketball coach Richard Lauer learned as an assistant at the college level back in the 1980s were:

First, he wasn’t going to get rich. Second, there was little or no opportunity for coaching creativity.

Lauer moved back into the world of high school girls basketball – another place where he won’t become a millionaire.

Pioneers defeated in semifinal round

ZEPHYR – The North Central Texas Academy Pioneers over-achieved their way to within one victory of reaching the state football championship game this season, and they even held an early lead over the top-ranked team.

In the end, though, the Fredericksburg Heritage Christian School Eagles methodically recorded a 90-42 victory over the Pioneers in their Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools Div.

NCTA reaches TAPPS semifinals

It’s an exciting time for the North Central Texas Academy Pioneers, who will play this weekend for the right to advance to the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools’ Division II six-man football state championship.

“We’re very excited,” said NCTA head coach Kirby Rasco, whose 7-5 Pioneers walloped Alvin Living Stones 58-8 Saturday in Buckholts, in a game that ended on the 45-point mercy rule on the first play of the third quarter.
