GHS golf teams set for District 8-5A play

The Granbury Pirates got a good look at their district counterparts over the past weekend in the District 8-5A preview at Squaw Valley Golf Course in Glen Rose.

The Pirates Purple squad tied for third with Keller’s A team, each shooting 597 (306-291). Keller was the only team in the tournament that does not compete in 8-5A.

Lady Indians land six on All-18-A Team

In perhaps the most understated awards presentation of the year, Lipan junior Lanie Roberts was named the District 18-A Girls Basketball Most Valuable Player by the league’s coaches.

Roberts averaged 31 points in leading the Lady Indians to a share of the district championship with Strawn – which they defeated by 25 points to win the Region III championship.

Rattlers win seventh in row

For a brief moment Tuesday night, the Tolar Rattlers actually trailed in their game against Ranger.

The key word in that sentence being brief.

The Rattlers overcame a 1-0 deficit after the opening inning to roll to a 14-1 victory at home.

Dusty Kimmell drove in four runs, while Lance Smith doubled with an RBI and Tyler Anderson tripled.

Tolar spoils Graford’s day

The Tolar Lady Rattlers continue to make short work of their District 11-2A opponents as they cruised past Graford 15-0 Tuesday in the first game on the Lady Jackrabbits’ new field.

The Lady Rattlers (9-9 overall) improved to 5-0 in district and have won seven straight games. During that span they have outscored their opponents 110-18, with the only game going a full seven innings being a 6-2 win over Perrin-Whitt.

Indians dominant in first victory

The Lipan Indians got their first victory of the baseball season in dominant fashion Monday, defeating visiting Gordon 15-4.

Lipan pitcher Lance Ferguson struck out 13 Longhorns, walking three and surrendering six hits. He also helped his own cause at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a pair of home runs and four runs batted in.

Steal of home gives Lipan thrilling win

Brianna Barnett stole home with the winning run as the Lipan Lady Indians defeated Graford 7-6 in a District 11-2A softball game recently.

Barnett got on with a single in the sixth, stole second and third.

“With two outs we rolled the dice and came up a winner,” said coach Mike Permenter.

GHS trainers granted prestigious honor

Granbury High School and Crossland Ninth Grade Center athletic trainers are the recipient of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Safe Sports School award.

The First Team award champions safety and recognizes secondary schools that provide safe environments for student athletes. The honor also reinforces the importance of providing the best level of care, injury prevention and treatment.
