Area track coaches granted elite duties

How many times has it been said if only an official could stand in a coach’s shoes, or vice-versa.

That is happening for a couple of Hood County track this weekend at the University Interscholastic League Track and Field Meet at the University of Texas in Austin.

Tolar pole vaulting coach Scotty Miller and Granbury Lady Pirate track coach Mike Pinkerton will be officiating this weekend.Read the rest

The Pirates, like many teams around Texas, are holding spring football drills. The workouts include incoming freshmen through incoming seniors. The practices wrap up with the annual spring game May 24, probably at Granbury Middle School field. The baseball team is playing this weekend in the second round of the Class 3A playoffs.

As we all know, white bass, or what we call sand bass, typically spawn in the backs of major creeks or up in the river that feeds the reservoir.

It is also known that some of the fish may spawn on wind-blown banks and points. Locating these fish after the spawn when they make their trek back to the main lake may have you burning some fuel.Read the rest

SEALS HOLDING REGISTRATION

The Granbury SEALS swim team has started registration for the upcoming summer season. Swimmers can sign up and try out on May 16 and May 23 at 5:30 p.m. at the Dana Vollmer Municipal Swim Center (City Park pool).

The first day of practice is June 3 for returning team members and June 4 for newcomers. The season begins June 8 at Trophy Club, with a meet at Weatherford June 14, and back-to-back in Granbury on June 22 and 29.Read the rest

Area athletes academic all-state

When it comes to smart athletes, there is no shortage in Hood County.

As evidence, 21 senior athletes from Granbury and Tolar were recently named academic all-state by coaching organizations across the state.

One, in fact, was honored twice. Shelby Cline of the Granbury Lady Pirates was named to the basketball and volleyball academic teams. Read the rest
