Lipan qualifies 10 for regional meet

Lipan qualifiers for the Class A Division II Region III Meet in Bullard April 25-26 include Jorge Hernandez, Catherine Thormann, Lanie Roberts, and Shelby Bontke.

Each reached state in 2013.

They will be joined by a host of other Indians and Lady Indians following the recent Area 17/18 Meet.

Roberts won two gold medals, taking first in the 800-meter run with a 2:39, and in the 1600 in six minutes.Read the rest

Pirates stay in front

The Granbury Pirates remained tied with Arlington Heights atop the District 7-4A baseball standings with a 10-0 whitewashing of Western Hills Friday.

Granbury pitchers Landon Weatherly and Payton Rhodes combined to pitch a two-hitter. Weatherly struck out seven over three and a third innings.

It’s only the second time in 10 district games that the Pirates (15-7, 9-1 in District 7-4A) have not had a pitcher throw a complete game.Read the rest

Granbury High Project Graduation recently received a donation of $1,460 from Brent Northcutt Farmers Insurance and Financial Services – all made from money pledged by the company for free throws made at Pirate and Lady Pirate basketball games during the 2013-14 season. Tolar drops home finale’ to Whitney

Visiting Maypearl jumped out to a big lead early and went on to post a 15-4 District 10-2A softball victory over Tolar Friday.

Maypearl took a 9-0 after batting in the top of the first inning. They built the advantage to 10-0 before the Lady Rattlers got on the board.

Ferguson’s one-hitter leads Indians’ 8-0 win

Lipan pitcher Lance Ferguson almost unhittable against Eula.

Almost.

Ferguson surrendered a one-out single in the top of the seventh inning in the Indians’ 8-0 victory.

Ferguson struck out 10 and walked one. He faced 23 batters, two above the minimum.

The Indians committed no errors.

Rattlers’ return home spoiled

With both starting pitchers out sick, the Tolar Rattlers’ return home was not a ceremonious one, falling 17-4 to Maypearl.

The Rattlers (9-9 overall) fell to 1-6 in District 10-2A. They are clinging to slim playoff hopes, but must win their final three games at home to have any chance.

“We will have everyone back healthy (last night against Whitney). We will need to win out to have a shot,” said Tolar coach Darrell Hogan.Read the rest

Lady Pirates win key standings game

This time the Lady Pirates had the most hits AND the most runs against South Hills.

Behind the four-hit pitching of Destini Lopez, the Lady Pirates defeated the Lady Scorpions 5-2 Friday at the Granbury field.

Granbury, meanwhile, collected eight hits.

When the teams met earlier in the district’s first round, Granbury outhit South Hills 6-1. However, the Lady Pirates lost the game 2-1.Read the rest

Lipan’s Ibarra back at tennis regionals

Lipan’s Brenda Ibarra is returning to regional tennis, but this time she’s going in the tournament as the District 16-A champion.

Last season Ibarra advanced to regionals as the district runner-up.

Ibarra breezed through district without losing a match. She disposed of her opponent from Priddy, 6-0, 6-0, followed by a 6-2, 6-1 win over a foe from Mullin in the semifinals.Read the rest
