Chandler hired by Paradise

Former Lipan Indians coach Cody Chandler has been hired as the new head coach at Paradise. Chandler compiled an eight-season record of 183-92 at Lipan, leading the Indians to the state semifinals in 2009, along with six appearances at the regional tournament and seven playoff appearances in all. This past season the Indians were 14-16 and lost 73-70 to Coolidge in the second round of the Class A Division II playoffs.…

Former Pirate baseball coach wins state title

Former Granbury head baseball coach Pat Watson is an assistant coach for Flower Mound Marcus, which won the Class 5A state championship Friday. Watson led the Pirates to several postseason appearances before leaving for Elgin in 2008, reaching the second round of the playoffs in 2003.

Sydney Carpenter and Joel Reid, two graduating seniors at Granbury High School, are each the recipient of a $10,000 Granbury ISD Education Foundation Scholar Athlete scholarship. A former Lady Pirate volleyball player, Carpenter received the Shiner Energy & Consulting Co. Scholar Athlete Scholarship. She plans to attend Texas Tech University to pursue a degree in broadcasting. Reid, a former GHS swimmer, was the winner of the Tom and Susan Durant Scholarship.…

Area fishing report

Fishing on Lake Granbury has been great for sand bass, small stripers and largemouth bass. Limits of sand bass are being taken on slabs and spinners near midlake and on the lower ends near Blue Water Shores. Squaw Creek fishing is also great for several species.
