Volleyball scrimmages this weekend

The Granbury Lady Pirates and Tolar Lady Rattlers will scrimmage opponents this weekend before opening the regular season next week. The Lady Pirates are hosting Haltom, Saginaw Chisholm Trail and Saginaw Boswell Friday morning, while Tolar travels to Fort Worth South Hills. Brawner wins five medals at national swimming

Kaylee Brawner brought home five medals from the State Games of America in Lincoln, Nebraska this past weekend. She captured silver medals in the Girls 15-17 100-meter backstroke, 100 freestyle and 50 freestyle, along with bronze medals in the 200 back and 200 free. The Granbury Pirates held their first football practice of the 2015 season Monday morning. Head coach Scotty Pugh said about 100 turned out for the varsity/JV portion, with another 80 or so expected to show up for Monday afternoon’s practice. SEALS fourth in state again

The Granbury SEALS swim team finished fourth in the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation Games of Texas in Bryan/College Station this past weekend. It is the second consecutive year they have finished fourth, matching the top finish in team history. Time for football

The first practices of the 2015 high school football season begin Monday morning, and that includes all four Hood County teams, Granbury, Tolar, North Central Texas and Cornerstone. The Pirates are coming off a 1-9 season that ended a four-year playoff run. Tolar was 10-3 and reached the third round of the 2A playoffs, their most victories since the Rattlers began playing 11-man ball in the 1970s.…
