Unbeaten Pirates crack TABC Class 5A rankings, at No. 23

Coach David Breazeale’s Granbury Pirates moved into the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches state rankings, at No. 23 in Class 5A, in the poll released today (Monday, Dec. 8). The 7-0 Pirates will be traveling for a tough nondistrict contest at Corsicana Tuesday night starting at 7. The Pirates stayed unbeaten (7-0) over the weekend, winning the Applebee’s Classic tournament Saturday at Boswell High School with a 45-30 decision over host Boswell in the championship game.…

Granbury boys win Applebee’s Classic in Boswell

Coach David Breazeale’s Granbury Pirates stayed unbeaten (7-0) and won the Applebee’s Classic boys basketball tournament Saturday at Boswell High School with a 45-30 victory over host Boswell. Clay Brawner and Aaron Villa of the Pirates were named to the all-tournament team. The Pirates had defeated Justin Northwest, 68-64, Friday in the semifinal round.…

Tolar girls win first two games of season in Glen Rose tourney

Lady Indians win tourney title; NCTA girls, boys take third

The top-ranked Lipan Lady Indians (11-2) won the girls division of the first-ever Lipan Tournament of  Champions on Saturday afternoon, holding off Class 3A Keene in the final, 58-56 in overtime. Lipan junior Lanie Roberts was named as the tournament’s Most Valuable Player on the girls side, and teammates Taylor Herrera and Bryanna Phelps were also on the all-tournament team.…

Coach Steve Schmidt’s Lady Pirates (4-5), completed their play in the Cowtown Classic in Fort Worth with a 50-26 victory over Fort Worth Southwest on Saturday at Billings Field House in Fort Worth. They were defeated by Midlothian, 47-45, late Friday afternoon in the consolation bracket., but rebouded with a 55-31 win over Fort Worth Dunbar last night.…

Ezell, Strange make TGCA all-state team

Senior Aubrey Ezell and sophomore Amber Strange of the Granbury Lady Pirates were named on the Texas Girls Coaches Association’s Class 5A all-state volleyball team for the 2014 season. It was the second year in a row for Ezell. The two-time district Most Valuable Player also was named all-state by the Texas Sports Writers Association as a junior.…

GHS girls fall to Kennedale; Pirates win on road
