Hickey named all-state shortstop

Granbury’s Nathan Hickey has been named second-team shortstop on the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association Class 4A All-State Team. It is the latest of many postseason honors for Hickey, who graduated from GHS this spring, including being named the District 7-4A Most Valuable Player and being selected as a shortstop on the North Team in the recent THSBCA All-Star Game in Round Rock.…

Area fishing report

The fishing on Granbury is excellent for white bass and small stripers at mid- lake and on the lower ends. Some surface schooling is taking place.
The black bass anglers continue to catch good fish as well, mainly on soft plastics and crank baits. Squaw Creek is warming up. Black bass anglers are catching good black bass to 7 pounds on soft plastics and deep diving crankbaits near the island and on the upper ends. Tilapia are good to 3 pounds on worms near banks with Rip Rap where they can eat moss.…

Allen wins Starburst

Hood County golfer Tucker Allen won the Boys 12 division of the prestigious Starburst Tournament in Waco this week, shooting an 8-under-par 206 over three rounds. He posted rounds of 67-72-67. Allen also made a hole-in-one on the tournament’s first day on the par-3, 130-yard eighth hole at Sammons Golf Links in the tournament’s opening round.…

Chandler hired by Paradise

Former Lipan Indians coach Cody Chandler has been hired as the new head coach at Paradise. Chandler compiled an eight-season record of 183-92 at Lipan, leading the Indians to the state semifinals in 2009, along with six appearances at the regional tournament and seven playoff appearances in all. This past season the Indians were 14-16 and lost 73-70 to Coolidge in the second round of the Class A Division II playoffs.…
