Pirates open district tennis with road victory

Lady Pirates get mention on elite volleyball lists

Three current members of the fourth-ranked Granbury High School Lady Pirates are on lists identifying elite volleyball players nationwide, according to coach Tammy Clark. Senior Aubrey Ezell is on the Under Armour High School All-America Watch List. Meanwhile, junior Karis Beasley and sophomore Amber Strange are on the American Volleyball Coaches Association’s Phenom List.…

NCTA closes out football scrimmages

The North Central Texas Academy Pioneers completed their scrimmage schedule Friday, taking on Iredell and Blanket, in six-man football action at Iredell. Coach Kirby Rasco said his first-teamers scored a touchdown against Blanket on a 43-yard pass to Cole Rasco, thrown by Nash Siachetema. The Pioneers who scored with the second-team offensive unit against Iredell were Ray Sun and DeMario McGowan.…

GHS tennis team rallies to beat Weatherford

The Granbury High School tennis team needed a rally Friday and got one, defeating Class 6A Weatherford Friday on the road, 10-9. The Pirates had traveled to face another 6A school on Thursday, at Midlothian. Coach Tyson Stewart’s Pirates lost that match, 14-5. They will continue their road competition on Tuesday starting at 4:30 p.m.…

Lady Pirates win their tournament second straight year

The eighth-ranked Granbury Lady Pirates won their own Granbury Classic Chevrolet Volleyball Tournament championship trophy for the second year in a row, overcoming a tough Class 6A team from Copperas Cove in the title game early Saturday evening at James Wann Sports Center. Granbury lost the first game to the Lady Bulldogs, 26-24, but won the next two, 25-20, 25-14.…

Pirates outscored by Stephenville in final scrimmage

The Granbury Pirates scored first against highly ranked Stephenville Friday night in the final football scrimmage before the start of the regular season at Johnny Perkins Field at Pirate Stadium in Granbury. That came on a 70-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Brody Ables to Brenden King. The Yellow Jackets, one of the favorites to contend for the Class 4A Division I state championship, responded with three TD passes.…

Tolar tops Dublin in football scrimmage

The Tolar Rattlers outscored Dublin 2-0 Thursday night at Rattler Stadium in a controlled football scrimmage and also outscored the Lions 26-6 when they played two timed quarters. The Rattlers recorded three rushing touchdowns, on runs of 44, 5 and 4 yards, and also added a 1-yard TD pass thrown by quarterback Dakota Endsley, who threw for 140 yards overall.…

Lady Pirates defeat Arlington Martin in home opener
