Ezell earns second straight district MVP Award

Granbury High School senior setter Aubrey Ezell earned her second consecutive volleyball Most Valuable Player Award, by vote of the eight coaches in District 8-5A. Teammate Breanna Crain, a senior libero, was voted as the district’s Defensive Player of the Year. Lady Pirate sophomore Jordyn Musser is the Newcomer of the Year, and first-team all-district honors went to junior Karis Beasley and sophomore Amber Strange.…

NCTA’s TAPPS state semifinal playoff game is Saturday

The Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools Div. II six-man football state semifinal playoff game between North Central Texas Academy and Fredericksburg Heritage Christian School will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, in Zephyr. Tickets will be $8 for adults, $5 for students. NCTA (7-5) won its regional playoff game over Alvin Living Stones (5-5), 58-8, last Saturday. The Heritage Eagles (8-3) beat Lifegate Christian, 30-22, in their regional playoff.…

Lipan boys slip to 1-1 with loss to Zephyr

The Lipan boys basketball squad slipped to 1-1 Tuesday night with a 55-43 loss to Zephyr in nondistrict play. The Indians’ next game will be Homecoming in Lipan on Saturday, Nov. 29 versus Ector. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:30 for that contest. The 6-0 and state-ranked Lipan girls are also set to play that day, against Sanger, with a 2 p.m.

Lady Rattlers lose to Strawn, 77-40

The Tolar Lady Rattlers on Tuesday night dropped a 77-40 nondistrict girls basketball decision on the road to Strawn. The Lady Rattlers slipped to 0-3 on the season. Their  game that had been scheduled for Saturday against Boyd had been canceled by Boyd. The next contest for coach Benita Carlton’s squad is set for 6:30 p.m.…

Lady Pirates drop second straight road game

The Granbury Lady Pirates on Tuesday afternoon lost their second game in a row on the road, 61-48 to Midlothian. On Monday they dropped a 45-27 decision in Stephenville. Coach Steve Schmidt’s Lady Pirates (2-2) had opened the season with back-to-back victories. Stephenville’s Honeybees are No. 7 in the current Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Class 4A state rankings.…

Lipan girls win Hamilton tournament, stay unbeaten

The Lipan Lady Indians won the 10-team Hamilton tournament Saturday, defeating Hamilton 53-33 in the championsip game to improve to 6-0 on the season. They defeated Gatesville 56-31 Friday afternoon in the semifinals, and  beat Salado 73-29 Thursday in the first round. The next game for the Lipan boys will be Tuesday at home against Zephyr.…
