Pirates outscored by Stephenville in final scrimmage

The Granbury Pirates scored first against highly ranked Stephenville Friday night in the final football scrimmage before the start of the regular season at Johnny Perkins Field at Pirate Stadium in Granbury. That came on a 70-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Brody Ables to Brenden King. The Yellow Jackets, one of the favorites to contend for the Class 4A Division I state championship, responded with three TD passes.…

Lady Pirates sweep three matches in Friday pool play

The eighth-ranked (Class 5A)  Granbury Lady Pirates (9-3) won all three of their matches in pool play on the first day of their Granbury Classic Chevrolet Volleyball Tournament at Granbury High’s James Wann Sports Center. Although GHS coach Tammy Clark cautioned that some tournament games may start ahead of schedule when possible in the 18-team field, the Lady Pirates are scheduled to play their first Saturday match at noon, in the Gold Bracket. The Gold Bracket also shows that the winner of that noon match is supposed to play in the semifinal round at 2 p.m.…

Tolar tops Dublin in football scrimmage

The Tolar Rattlers outscored Dublin 2-0 Thursday night at Rattler Stadium in a controlled football scrimmage and also outscored the Lions 26-6 when they played two timed quarters. The Rattlers recorded three rushing touchdowns, on runs of 44, 5 and 4 yards, and also added a 1-yard TD pass thrown by quarterback Dakota Endsley, who threw for 140 yards overall.…

Lady Pirates defeat Arlington Martin in home opener

The Granbury Lady Pirates, playing their home opener for the 2014 season, downed Arlington Martin 25-15, 25-20, 28-30, 25-16 in the James Wann Sports Center.
