Hood County teachers honored
Three Hood County public school teachers were among the educators honored recently by Weatherford College. They are Kristen Thigpen, a first-grade teacher at Oak Woods School in Granbury; Tawn Perkins, a high school math teacher in Lipan; and Shawna Green, a third-grade math and science teacher in Tolar. Capital murder trial for Justin Ragan set to begin
The capital murder trial of Hood County resident Justin Wade Ragan, 24, is scheduled to begin today in 355th Judicial District Court before Judge Ralph Walton. Ragan and Gordon Ray Lewis, 36, are both charged with capital murder in the death of Gene Sabin, who was 63 when he died of a gunshot wound in January 2012. A third defendant, Kimberly Danielle Milwicz, 24, is facing a murder charge in the case.… Read the rest
NWS issues Red Flag Warning; fire marshal recommends delaying controlled burns
Hood County and many others in the region will be under a Red Flag Warning from noon today to 8 p.m. for strong winds and low humidity, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth. Strong winds are expected behind an incoming cold front. Winds of 20 to 30 mph with higher gusts can be expected. Hood County Fire Marshal Brian Fine recommends that anyone thinking about starting a controlled burn hold off until Thursday or Friday, and to call his office before doing so, at 817-579-3335.… Read the rest
Girl, 13, arraigned in shooting of boy, 14
A 13-year-old girl was arrested and arraigned on a first-degree felony charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with an incident that occurred late Thursday afternoon at a residence on Peak Road south of Granbury in which a 14-year-old boy suffered a gunshot wound to the upper thigh, Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Judy Watson said Friday morning.… Read the rest
Boy, 14, being flown to area hospital with gunshot wound in leg
A 14-year-old boy who reportedly suffered a leg wound caused by a bullet from a 9mm gun late Thursday afternoon at a location on Peak Road south of Granbury is being flown by helicopter to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth for medical treatment. Hood County District Attorney Rob Christian said that the incident is under investigation by the Hood County Crimes Against Children Task Force, but no other information is available at this time.… Read the rest
Both lanes open again on Hill City Highway in Tolar, but transport trailers still stranded
Two 120-foot halves of a train trestle being transported on two tanden truck trailers from San Angelo to a construction site on Highway 121 in Fort Worth caused traffic delays and headaches Thursday in separate incidents in Tolar and Granbury – and the adventure is not over yet. Tolar Police Chief R.C. Cox said that the driver of one of the trucks was cited by the DPS for operating an unsafe vehicle after his load – a 130,000-pound steel trestle piece – fell off of the truck’s trailer in the southbound lane of Hill City Highway in Tolar, at the edge of Meyer’s Kwik Stop parking lot when a pin connecting the trailer broke.… Read the rest
Railroad crossing in Cresson again blocked by malfunctioning arms
For the fourth time this week, traffic is backing up at the Cresson intersection of Highway 377 and 171, according to Precinct 4 Commissioner Steve Berry and other sources. Berry says the crossing arms are malfunctioning again, as they did during morning rush hour Wednesday, which caused a back-up three miles long. One lane of Hill City Highway blocked after huge metal structure falls from truck
The southbound lane of Hill City Highway in Tolar, just off Highway 377 near Meyer’s Kwik Stop, has been blocked since just before noon today after a large metal structure, reportedly weighing approximately 80,000 pounds, fell off a tandem flatbed truck that was transporting it to a bridge project in Fort Worth, according to reports. A crane large enough to lift the metal piece is on its way, according to emergency scanner traffic, but isn’t expected to arrive until about 3 p.m.… Read the rest
Officers have two suspects in custody in Spanish Trail area
Emergency scanner traffic indicated at about 7:15 a.m. today, officers took a male suspect into custody near a residence in the 1300 block of Spanish Trail Drive after a search that involved Granbury police, Sheriff’s Office deputies and a DPS helicopter following a 911 call at about 4 a.m. Deputy Chief Alan Hines of the Granbury Police Department has confirmed that, in addition, a female was taken into custody and no other suspects are at large.… Read the rest
