Eight from Tolar earn All-10-2A hoops

Tolar girls basketball player Hannah Peregrino was voted first-team all-District 10-2A and teammate Shelby Nunley earned second-team status in voting by the coaches.

Peregrino, a junior, averaged 11 points and seven rebounds during the 2013-2014 season. That led the Lady Rattlers in both categories. She also averaged two steals and hit 46 percent of her shots from the field overall.

Nunley (4.0 points, 2.0 steals, 2.0 assists) is also a junior.Read the rest

Rattlers run to second title

Tolar track coach Gregg Lee isn’t one to mince words.

So when he says his team is going to be pretty darned good again this season, it’s worth a listen.

The Rattlers have won their first two meets, including bringing home the top trophy from the Rams Relays in Mineral Wells recently.

The Lady Rattlers were fifth in their division with 50 points.Read the rest

Springtown rallies late to topple Tolar

March 8, 2014

Springtown scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to upend the Tolar Lady Rattlers 4-2 in a nondistrict softball game Tuesday.

Tolar pitcher Staci Ashley surrendered just two hits and struck out nine.

Searra Mace and Hannah Lee each had two hits.

Lee’s inside-the-park home run put Tolar ahead by a run in the fourth. Then, Mace had a double in the top of the fifth and was brought home by Ashley.Read the rest

Big first inning propels Rattlers past Dublin

March 5, 2014

A 10-run first inning lifted the Tolar Rattlers (2-2) to a 17-8 drubbing of Dublin Friday.

Dakota Endsley and Corbin Wood each drove in five runs. Endsley had three hits, while Wood had a triple and double.

“I changed the lineup some to get some new kids more experience,” said coach Darrell Hogan Baseball

Dublin drops Lady Rattlers

The Tolar Lady Rattlers dropped a road softball contest at Dublin Friday, 11-2.

The Lady Rattlers (3-5) outhit Dublin 11-8, but committed five errors. They also left seven runners stranded on base.

Haley Webb and Searra Mace each had three hits to lead the Tolar offense, with Mace having an RBI. Reagan Mabery had two hits and a double. Kailey Brock also had a double and drove in a run

Rattlers drop two to Bosqueville

The Tolar Rattlers dropped a doubleheader at Bosqueville recently, 10-9 and 11-1.

In the opening game, the Rattlers (1-2) led by a run in the final inning before Bosqueville rallied for a pair of runs and the victory. The second game got out of hand early for Tolar as they surrendered five first-inning runs.

Dakota Endsley had three hits, including a double, and Rorie Brister had a pair of hits in the first game.Read the rest

Tolar track teams open strong

February 26, 2014

The Tolar track teams began the season in their typical strong fashion recently at the Millsap Invitational, with the boys winning their division and the girls taking second in theirs.

The Rattlers scored 187 points to outdistance runner-up Red Oak Life with 139. The Lady Rattlers scored 149, topped only by Breckenridge with 211.

Rodie Brister won a gold medal in the 110-meter hurdles, along with the pole vault, an event in which he reached state last season.Read the rest

Tolar softball counting on experience, schedule

The Tolar Lady Rattlers came close to reaching the softball playoffs last season with a young team.

Now, second-year coach Christie Collie is counting on that experience to turn into postseason experience.

Rattlers get win on road in debut of new coach

The coaching debut of Darrell Hogan at Tolar was a successful one as the Rattlers won 5-3 at Boyd.

Steve Morphew and Lance Smith each pitched three innings for the Rattlers, with Smith getting the win. Tyler McMillen came in and pitched the seventh inning for the save.

The Rattlers won despite managing four hits – all singles. But Morphew, Smith and McMillen combined to surrender just four hits and two walks while striking out 13.Read the rest

Despite tough season, Rattlers finished strong

The path through the 2013-2014 basketball season was a bumpy one for the Tolar boys, but the young Rattlers seemed to be coming around near the end.

The Rattlers won two of their last three games in District 10-2A play and finished 3-9 with Friday night’s 52-34 loss to second-place Godley. Tolar was 3-16 overall.

Tolar advanced into the football playoffs, so several of the varsity players got a late basketball start for the second year in a row.Read the rest
